Virginia Mason Memorial Registered Nurse (RN) - Procedural Sedation in Yakima, Washington

We are looking for an RN to join the Surgical Services Team at Yakima Valley Memorial!

This role will have the versatility of working with procedural sedation patients at the Main Hospital Campus, as well as the Ridgeview Surgery Center. The Procedural Sedation RN cares for patients who are undergoing urological or gastroenterology procedures and provides sedation as directed by a physician with credentials to oversee RN-administered sedation. The Procedural Sedation RN is an autonomous role in which you care for the patient from pre-procedural prep through discharge home. The Procedural Sedation RN will work in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team.

RNs in Surgical Services at Yakima Valley Memorial enjoy support from a 24-hour Lift Team, 24-hour Respiratory Team, Pharmacy (24-hour med mixing), Social Workers and Chaplains so you can focus on providing the very best care to your patients.


The RN performs a comprehensive review of record to assure pre-procedural optimization in alignment with the plan of care; completes individualized patient assessments; develops a care plan based on assessment/history findings; delivers patient-centered care that is culturally appropriate; evaluates a patient’s response to care and revises as needed. The RN is accountable to deliver care as well as to oversee and delegate to other personnel (clinical & non-clinical) in delivering/supporting the delivery of care. The Procedural Sedation RN assists in procedures by providing sedation for a variety of case types including, but not limited to: Gastroenterology and Urology at the Surgery Suites in the Yakima Valley Memorial Main Hospital as well as Ridgeview Surgery Center.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Admits patients and reviews their charts per department standard processes in preparation for procedures.

  1. Responsible to perform timely patient assessments, documentation, and interventions within the nursing scope of practice in fast-paced, schedule-driven care environment.

  2. Assists in procedures by administering sedation medications and observing patients to achieve the optimal sedation level while maintaining patient safety. 4. Serve as a trusted and reliable educator about the procedure process for the patient and family. 5. Recovers patients following the procedure and delivers patient education upon discharge. 6. Required to delegate, supervise, and evaluate as necessary, while simultaneously executing immediate directives and interventions in urgent or emergent situations.

    QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS Education: Associate's degree in Nursing required; BSN preferred. Experience: Previous acute care or procedural sedation experience preferred. License/Certification/Registration: Washington State DOH Registered Nursing licensure required. American Heart Association BLS required until certified in ACLS. ACLS required within 90 days of hire. Additional Requirements: Post-shift call requirement to cover patient care needs if case duration or recovery period extends past the RNs scheduled shift end. The RN is expected to flex worked hours between the two locations (YVM Surgery & Ridgeview).
