Overview:

There is one Program Coordinator II ( Interpreter Services Coordinator) vacancy with Yakima County District Court . The Court Coordinator for Interpreter Services plays a pivotal role in ensuring effective communication within the court system by overseeing all aspects of interpreter services. This position is responsible for assessing and monitoring the interpreter service needs across all court operations, including hearings, programs, and translation services. Key responsibilities include sourcing and negotiating contracts with interpreter service providers, managing those contracts, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and standards. The Coordinator will actively participate in state and local committees and workgroups focused on improving interpreter services, fostering collaboration and best practices. The role entails reviewing and processing invoices for payment, overseeing grant applications and reporting, and managing the court's Language Access Plan to ensure equitable access to justice for all individuals. The Coordinator will also develop educational materials for court staff and the public to enhance understanding of interpreter services and maintain the court's website section dedicated to these services.

As of this posting, this position is temporary to allow for training for the successful candidate with the existing employee occupying the permanent position. Once the employee vacates the permanent position, this temporary position will be converted to the permanent position.

Responsibilities:

Essential Duties:

Makes recommendations and participating in the design, development, and implementation of policies, procedures, and guidelines for interpreting services, as well as analyzing language needs trends within the court. Key responsibilities include investigating technological advancements in interpreter services to assess their applicability; keeping track of legislation, guidelines, and standards that impact interpreter services and recommending necessary programmatic changes; addressing issues related to interpreter guidelines, ethics, standards, protocols, and methodologies; orienting and training both new interpreters (staff and contractors) and court staff on interpreting services; participating in the recruitment, selection, and training of both staff and contract interpreters; acting as an integral member of the court team to ensure coverage for interpreting services across two different court locations.

 

Determines the most efficient and cost-effective use of interpreter resources to fulfill the needs of the Court and Probation Services. Addresses issues related to service availability and quality and evaluates ongoing service requirements.
