Overview:

There is one Engineer V opening with the Yakima County Public Services, Water Resources Division. This position is responsible for managing and coordinating the budgeting, cost estimating, design, permitting, construction and monitoring of the County's flood control works and flood risk reduction projects. This position trains Water Resources Engineers, assists in new project development, leads projects with larger scope and financial accountability and assigns and monitors technical work of other Water Resources Engineers.

Responsibilities:

Essential Duties:

  1. Prioritizes, assigns, reviews, and directs engineering projects or programs; programs; provides direction, training, guidance and feedback to technical and professional staff, consultants, contractors and architects.

     

Provides engineering standards, procedures, and process for the water resources group. Takes leading role in resolving complex engineering questions. Provides technical advice and counsel related to engineering questions and programs.

Develops and promotes engineering growth and understanding among technical and professional staff within Water Resources.

 

  1. Prepares, coordinates and monitors preparation of project designs, plans, drawings, specifications, estimates, spreadsheets and graphic information material. Gathers and interprets engineering data for projects with a broad scope and high level of financial responsibility.

     

Performs GIS, Auto-CAD, and Civil 3D work related to Water Resources Division projects. Prepares Contract Documents and specifications for projects. Obtains necessary environmental permits for projects.

 

Reviews, drafts and processes engineering documents, resolutions and ordinances; conducts engineering investigations and studies.

 

  1. Prepares and completes complex plans, designs, calculations and cost estimates related to hydrologic, hydraulic, flood hazard reduction, fish passage, surface water, stormwater drainage, and water quality projects and programs.

     

Prepares and runs hydrologic/hydraulic surface and groundwater models to help support Water Resources project designs. 

 

Provide assistance and QA/QC to Water Resources engineers, consultants and others on Water Resources projects.
