Interwest Construction Inc. (ICI) of Burlington, Washington is seeking a well rounded Heavy Civil Construction Project Engineer for our growing business in the Yakima, WA area. The successful candidate will be a part of an energized team supporting jobsites for civil construction; roads, bridges, underground utility, pump stations, sewage treatment plant, airport, and other projects for both public and private entities. This person will be motivated by a busy and professional work environment where he/she will be challenged by many types of projects. The ideal candidate will have sufficient field experience to provide the knowledge required to understand how to build the projects being worked. He/she must work well in both individual and group settings, be organized, professional and efficient with their time.
The Engineer will have great attention to detail, enjoy exercising analytical thinking and demonstrate excellent communication skills with internal and external customers.
This position is in Yakima, Washington. The Project Engineer is responsible for the comprehensive management of construction projects from start/bid day to final project closeout. Generally, this position involves oversight of multiple projects and includes daily task of scheduling, procurement, project communications, and cost analysis. The job requires regular investigation and determination of responsibilities for all project requirements as stated in the Contract, any Subcontract, RFI response, Field directive, or any other project communication and then holding responsible parties accountable.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:Full comprehension of plans, contract, and bid documents.
Coordination of all project activity per plans and contract documents.
Communication of changes and understanding of impacts brought on by changes. Understanding and assessment of costs for impacts brought by changes.
Clear presentation to clients of entitlements for changes.Analysis of any activity for cost vs. budget.
Internal reporting accurately and regularly on the project’s success.
Capability to work predominantly without supervision or within a team as required Thorough knowledge of construction project management best practices, means, and methods
Aptitude to prioritize and manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously while working under time constraints
Ability to cooperate, collaborate and communicate with client and field personnel. To conduct and manage meetings with clients, subcontractors and vendors.
Expertise in reading and interpret plans and specifications. With any available resource whether it be a laborer in the field, direct supervisor, the internet, a supplier, a subcontractor, etc., accomplish all the essential functions and responsibilities for project. This is expected to be carried out with little or no supervision in a collaborative environment.
Qualifications/Education/Skills/Certifications: The ideal candidate may have these qualifications/Certifications and/or a combination of these items to qualify:
Mastery of Project Management with projects for public and private clients.
Over 4-10 years of relevant Heavy Civil Construction Project Management experience
BA – Civil Engineering and/or BA – Business Admin/Management
Washington State Professional Engineer
CESCL, OSHA 30, First Aid/CPR, HAZWOPER 40 Hour
Additional Job notes: Extended seating/desk work. Able to meet requirements to drive company vehicles, ability to lift/load items for transport to and from job sites. Position requires interpersonal skills, creativity, integrity, and accountability. The industry is constantly changing, as are the job requirements as each new Contract commences. Knowledge of various software including Microsoft Office products, Microsoft Project, Bluebeam, HCSS Heavybid, HCSS Heavyjob.
