Virginia Mason Memorial Pharmacy Supervisor in Yakima, Washington


Supervises Pharmacy Department operations, and works in collaboration with the Lead Pharmacy Technicians and other departmental supervisors, Assistant Pharmacy Directors and Pharmacy Director.


Serves as the supervisor and role model for the Pharmacy Department in the development and provision Pharmacy services such as: Unit Dose drug distribution, IV Admixture Services, and Customer Service. Assists Pharmacy Director with writing and updating policies and procedures and ensures compliance with applicable regulatory standards. Performs the role of a pharmacist for all patient care areas and patient age groups: neonates, infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics. Provides consultation and information to medical staff, residents and paramedical personnel on availability, efficacy and proper use of drugs, adverse effects, contraindications, and incompatibilities. Actively participates in liaison and educational programs with residency program, nursing and other health professionals to provide optimal working relationships for the best patient care. Assists with the development, revision and implementation of Pharmacy Department services that enhance the quality of pharmaceutical care in all service areas. Assists in leading intradepartmental and interdepartmental efforts at Continuous Quality Improvement. Undertakes projects to improve and maintain a high standard of pharmacy service. Participates in the yearly capital and departmental budgeting process. Ensures proper wage and hour law is being followed and assists with approval of staff time worked as needed. Works in conjunction with Human Resources and the Director in interviewing, training, on boarding, transfers, promotions and employee relations concerns.


Education: Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy required. Doctorate in Pharmacy preferred. Completion of a post-graduate pharmacy residency is preferred.

Experience: Previous supervisory experience preferred. Minimum of 2 years work experience in a Hospital Pharmacy required.


  • Washington State (DOH) Pharmacist licensure required.

  • American Heart Association BLS required.

  • ACLS & PALS Certification required for outpatient and nursing floor locations.

  • Licensure as a pharmacist preceptor by the Washington State Board of Pharmacy is preferred.

  • Washington State Preceptor Certification within 6 months of hire if eligible or within 6 months after becoming eligible.

  • Member in one or more of the following professional organizations is preferred: ASHP, ASCP, WSPA, APhA, or ACCP.

  • Current Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist (BCPS) certification is preferred.
