LAB COORDINATOR

WELDING TECHNOLOGY PROGRAM

 

This is a full time, year-round hourly position in the Welding Technology Department.  This position will report to the Welding Technology Department Head.  The hours for this position are 6:30 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Thursday.

Under the direction of the Welding Technology Department Head, the Welding Lab Coordinator is responsible for inventory levels, materials/consumables acquisition and lab setup.                                

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Duties are performed in a welding shop setting.  Working effectively and collaboratively in a team environment is a must.  Working conditions will often match industry as follows:

Welders, cutters, solderers, and brazers may work outdoors, often in inclement weather, or indoors, sometimes in a confined area. They may work on a scaffold, high off the ground, and they occasionally must lift heavy objects and work in awkward positions. (http://www.bls.gov)

This is a non-exempt, full-time, regular position.

 

*WAGE RANGE: *$23.00 - $25.00 per hour

*MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: *

  • Ability to communicate effectively and to interface with students and staff in a professional, approachable manner.
  • Ability to operate a computer.
  • Will on occasion be required to drive on behalf of Perry Technical Institute. Employee must possess a working vehicle, hold a valid driver's license, have an acceptable driving record, and produce proof of insurance.
  • Must be willing to consent to a drug test.

     

*PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: *

  • Three (3) years of related practical work experience working in the welding industry *or *a certificate of completion from an accredited post-secondary welding program. 
  • Knowledge of multiple welding/cutting processes.
  • Blueprint/Print Interpretation.
  • Fabrication/Layout knowledge.
  • Experience with Learning Resource Systems (LRS)

     

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Troubleshoot problems in the lab environment.

Maintain inventory levels of filler metals and base metals.

Coordinate purchasing of supplies, consumables, job materials with the Department Head.

Assist instructors with lab and demonstration setup.

Grade, assess and document student progress and attendance using Perry Tech's LRS

Provide student advising on progress as per Perry Tech policy

Attend routine department meetings

Attend routine faculty meetings

Participate in various Perry Tech committees as assigned (safety, strategic planning, etc.).

Conduct program tours

Attend and participate in Perry Tech "Open House" events
