Virginia Mason Memorial Emergency Department Technician/NAC in Yakima, Washington

All staff members at Yakima Valley Memorial must be in compliance with the Vaccination Policy, which includes the COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2) vaccine, by their first day of employment.

Shift Differentials: Employees working evening duty (3:00 p.m. to 11 :30 p.m. shift) shall receive an additional one dollar and fifty-five cents ($1.55) per hour over their regular rate of pay, and employees working night duty (11:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. shift) shall receive an additional two dollars and fifty cents ($2.50) per hour over their regular rate of pay. Employees with scheduled shifts overlapping the aforementioned regular shift times shall be paid the appropriate shift differential for the hours worked.

ROLE SUMMARY

The Emergency Department Technician (ED Tech) participates in patient care under direct supervision of a Registered Nurse. The ED Tech provides patient transport, hygiene and comfort measures, and cleans and restocks patient rooms. The ED Tech also performs secretarial duties necessary for the smooth functioning of the Emergency Department.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBI L ITIES

  • Participates in the establishment, implementation and evaluation of nursing care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN).

  • Supports and fosters personalized patient care, incorporating the cultural and religious needs of the patient.

  • Independently documents assessments, interventions, and patient responses to treatment.

  • Identifies and reports significant changes in cardiac rhythm or rate immediately to the RN or Shift Coordinator; keeps RN and Shift Coordinator informed of pertinent information in a timely manner.

  • Works with the RN in assessing and providing for the patient's safety needs.

  • Performs and collects EKG according to departmental competency for all ages.

  • Identifies abnormal EKG and reports immediately to appropriate medical staff.

  • Independently applies orthopedic goods according to hospital/ED procedures upon the direction of supervisory personnel.

  • Responds to all emergency codes and knows the ED Tech's role and responsibility during each code.

  • Remains aware of patients’ needs throughout the entire ED and helps other team members as able.

  • Collaborates with all staff in the transfer/discharge of patients.

  • Checks medical record for appropriate signatures and completion of discharge status.

  • Performs clerical duties when assigned to the Unit Secretary role, including answering telephone, relaying messages, keeping records, directing visitors, distributing mail, and transcribing Physicians’ orders.

  • Processes Physicians' orders in an accurate and timely fashion.

  • Monitors ED records (staffing records, kardex, refrigerator/crash cart check lists, etc.) as assigned.

  • Cleans patient rooms thoroughly and completely as needed.

  • Monitors and restocks supplies, as outlined, in patient rooms, carts and at the nurses' station.

    QUA L IFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

    Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent required. Graduate of an accredited Nursing Assistant program required.

    Experience: Six months experience in a pre-hospital or acute care health setting preferred

    Licenses/Certificates/Registration: Washington State (DOH) Nursing Assistant certification required. American Heart Association BLS required.
