International Logistics and Purchasing Manager

The International Logistics and Purchasing Manager is responsible for the procurement and movement of products worldwide. In this integral role, you will utilize your expert knowledge of the international shipping ecosystem, including tariffs, regulations, supply chains, and freight, to effectively purchase, import and export all goods. This role manages relationships with key individuals, including suppliers, the Customs broker, forwarder, and internal and external customers. This role effectively uses a variety of methods to ensure goods are purchased and shipments are sent, tracked, received and documented properly, while providing status updates and proactively communicating with all stakeholders.

Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Manage all international logistics for the import and export of goods: provide shipment visibility and status updates to ensure on-time delivery; monitor and manage brokerage, forwarding, and steamship lines, and freight forwarders.

  • Oversee the company’s purchasing activities and execute/initiate all purchase orders to both domestic and international suppliers for products, ingredients, packaging and other supplies. Maintain close coordination with production management to ensure materials arrive for timely production of finished product.

  • Maintain a clear understanding of best practices both internally and externally for continuous process improvement in purchasing and international logistics and have the opportunity to help build your own team.

  • Manage the development and enforcement of import/export compliance policies and procedures, including but not limited to; Customs, FSMA, NAFTA, ISF, etc. This role is responsible to ensure the company’s compliance with regulatory bodies and laws related to import/export business, and to work with internal and external stakeholders to establish and maintain compliance and best practices.

  • Maintain communication with suppliers, Customers brokers, forwarders, internal stakeholders, and customers to enhance productivity, compliance and relations for both imports and exports.

  • Assist with the development of Import Vendor Instructions; educate merchants and vendors through documentation reviews, advice and constructive feedback.

  • Execute and monitor sales orders for direct shipment (“Drop Ship”) from SaltWorks’ suppliers directly to SaltWorks’ customers, both domestically and internationally; this includes purchasing, sales order entry, logistics coordination and customer service.

  • Maintain positive relationships with existing suppliers; secure and analyze quotes in accordance with our cost, safety and quality standards.

  • Investigate and make recommendations for new sources and supplier.

  • Partner with both Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable to ensure accurate, on-time payments to trade partners.

  • Training, education and coordination with employees engaged in buying and distributing goods and supplies.

  • Maintain clear and comprehensive documentation, including retention, execution, data entry and record-keeping for international logistics and purchasing activities as required by regulatory bodies.

  • Coordinate and manage regulatory audits as it relates to international logistics and purchasing in concert with Executive Management.

  • Operate efficiently with a sense of urgency and employ effective problem-solving skills in a fast-paced work environment.

  • Exhibit flawless attention to detail and prioritization.

  • Adhere to Good Manufacturing Processes, Food Safety Standards and related operational procedures.

  • Other projects and duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field or equivalent experience

  • 5+ years international logistics experience

  • 3+ years purchasing experience

  • Expert knowledge of the international shipping ecosystem, including tariffs, regulations, supply chains and freight modes

  • Fluency in Microsoft Office suite, especially Microsoft Excel

  • Comfortable with shifting priorities in a time-sensitive environment

  • Outstanding verbal & written communication skills for effective and friendly interaction with customers, team members, vendors and logistics providers

  • Strong math skills, including calculation of percentages and discounts

  • A self-starter who is results driven, customer-focused and resilient

  • Experience in a food manufacturing environment a plus

  • Working knowledge of ERP systems required
