Ocosta School District Transportation Supervisor - Ocosta School District in Westport, Washington


The Transportation Supervisor oversees the daily operation of the Transportation Department under the supervision of the Superintendent.  This position is full-time, Monday-Friday, year-round.\ \

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Washington State driver's license and willing to obtain a CDL with PS1 and air-brake endorsements.
  • Washington State Patrol fingerprint clearance.
  • Subject to routine drug and alcohol screening.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification or willing to obtain.
  • Current Department of Transportation physical or willing to obtain.
  • Must have basic diesel and automotive repair skills.
  • Transportation Supervisor maintains all vehicles according to the codes and specifications required by the State of Washington.
  • Possess certification as a School Bus Driver-Trainer, or willing to become certified.
  • Knowledge of Washington State pupil transportation rules and regulations; Washington State Pupil Transportation Manager Certificate preferred.
  • Experience in the development and implementation of school bus driver training programs preferred.


[Major Responsibilities]{.underline}[:]{.underline}

  • Plan, schedule, coordinate, participate and supervise all facets of Transportation operations.
  • Inspect buses for needed repairs and improvements.
  • Plans for and implements annual summer maintenance program.
  • Maintain district motor pool and assigns vehicles when travel has been properly approved.
  • Throughout the year, check road conditions, driving practices, equipment condition, loading practices, and operating procedures; and follows up with corrective measures where appropriate.
  • Perform road checks during inclement weather and confers with Superintendent to determine late start/school closures.
  • Coordinate the district Safety Committee.
  • Respond appropriately and quickly to any/all emergency situations involving transportation.
  • Conducts frequent evacuation drills.
  • Supervises regular and substitute bus drivers.
  • Ride buses to develop understanding of routes, student/family needs, and to support drivers.
  • Complete annual bus Ridership report.
  • Works with drivers and staff to improve student conduct.
  • Possess a high level of conflict resolution skills in dealing with drivers, parents, and members of the community.
  • Provide instruction at all grade levels of correct procedures for school riders, emergency exit drills, and responsibilities as pedestrians.
  • Investigate all complaints and incidents which may or may not lead to disciplinary action of a student or a driver.
  • Ability to interact professionally and effectively with community and staff.
  • Recommends the selection of new employees, as part of the interview team process, and monitors and evaluates new employees through their probationary period.
  • Understands and complies with union contract language and works with the Superintendent in all areas involving bus driving personnel.
  • Prepares, recommends, and oversees the Transportation budget under the supervision of the Superintendent.
  • Knowledge of PC computer and Microsoft Office programs.
  • Maintains records, diary and logs.
  • Prepares payroll for Business Manager.
  • Orders, inventories, and monitors all supplies, materials and equipment as needed/required by Transportation programs.
  • Monitors due dates for driver physicals, CPR training, and license requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned.
