Empowering Lives. Restoring Families. Responsibilities The Counselor serves as the conduit between the clinical team and the direct care staff. In addition to conducting individual counseling sessions and facilitating skills-based and psycho-educational groups, the counselor oversees milieu management. This position coordinates the stage system with the completion of written assignments, reflection, subsequent advancement through the stages and scheduling of earned privileges. This position provides clinical support to the program through milieu management and modeling appropriate interventions with staff. Essential Duties: Facilitate weekly individual counseling and skills-based, psychoeducational group sessions with adolescents/young adults within the framework of Newport Healthcare's clinical model. Provide a stable and consistent presence in the milieu by providing support to Care Coordinators (CCs) in managing clients and setting limits and consult with residential staff to ensure collaboration. Evaluate reflective assignments and advancement recommendations through stages, based on client's progress. Schedule experiential and recreational activities associated with earned privileges as part of advancement through the stage system. Develop treatment goals and coordinate services in collaboration with client's treatment team, as informed by intake assessments, with 30-day treatment plan reviews and updates. Conduct risk or crisis assessments and provide crisis intervention/management, as needed. Provide substance use education to clients, families, and in the community, as needed. Complete required documentation (e.g. assessments, treatment plans, progress and group notes, discharge summary) timely and according to established standards. Provide service coordination, case management, and discharge planning support as needed. Attend weekly treatment team meetings, staff meetings, and clinical supervision. Distribute weekly action plans for each client to staff. Attend meetings, trainings, and conferences representing Newport Healthcare as needed. Outpatient facility responsibilities may vary slightly. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in counseling, psychology, social work, or related field required. Master's Degree in counseling, psychology, social work, or related field STRONGLY PREFERRED Credentialed (CDP, CAC, CADC, RAD, SUDC, etc.) as a mental health or substance abuse counselor preferred. A willingness to pursue certification in the state in which services are provided is required. Prefer board registered (APCC, LAPC, ASW, AMFT, MHCA, LMHC) with credentialing agency within the state where services are provided. Experience working with indivi
