We are seeking resumes for an Assistant Superintendent Power / Recovery (1 Opening) in our Wallula, WA facility.

Description of role:

Responsible for all phases of Power & Recovery Operations, including Recovery Boilers, Black Liquor Evaporators and Concentrators, Power Boilers, Steam System, Feedwater System, and Recausticizing.

Principle Accountabilities:

Responsible for safe and cost-efficient operation of two recovery boilers, two power boilers, a hog fuel boiler, lime kiln and recausticizing system, and pink liquor plant.

Develops and implements long-term strategies for department and ensures continual process improvement and cost control.

Coordinates weekly maintenance and process control priorities and scheduling.

Coordinate maintenance outages including the annual outage for the area.

Ensures compliance with appropriate safety, environmental, and pressure vessel regulations.

Coordinates activities of crew members to set high standards and maintain a safe work environment.

Leadership duties also include crew training, SOP development, monitoring department housekeeping, crew staffing and scheduling, communication with crews and management, continuous process improvement, and a variety of other project related work.

Responsible for projects to improve overall department efficiency by analysis of production and quality problems in the Power/Recovery areas, preparation of department budgets, training, and development of salaried and hourly employees, participate in safety programs, and supervise capital projects.

Provide support for the Superintendent in department operation and administration.

This person may be exposed to shift work as a relief supervisor and weekend duty coverage of the Power & Recovery areas.

Basic Qualifications:

3 to 5 years’ experience in Power & Recovery processes.

Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Preferred Qualifications:

B.S. degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, Bio-Resource) or Paper Science.

Kraft soda cycle and recovery boiler process knowledge and recaust experience.

The successful candidate must possess the following Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Extensive working knowledge of kraft mill power and recovery systems.

Proven leadership qualities to motivate employees and encourage positive work and safety attitudes.

Effective team player with Total Quality management leadership, problem solving skills, and the ability to positively implement change.

Exhibited high priority to safety.

Self-motivated, customer-focused, and results-oriented.

Demonstrated excellent written and oral communication skills.

Strong organizational skills, ability to work with multiple teams, demonstrated leadership skills and the proven ability to lead effective teams.

Strong computer skills required including Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook.

Pay and Benefits:

The salary range for this position is from $104,000 to $156,000.

Employees (and their dependents) are eligible for medical, dental, vision, basic life, and disability insurance coverage, subject to applicable waiting periods. Employees are automatically enrolled in PCA’s 401k retirement plan at the time of hire. Employees are also eligible for up to 120 hours of vacation (prorated) and eleven (11) paid holidays per calendar year.
