Job Description

The Safety Specialist will serve as the lead technical safety specialist ensuring compliance with federal, state and local safety regulations. Upon completion of project this person would assume the role and responsibility of Jackson Contractor Group Corporate Safety provided experience, qualifications and expectations are met.

Essential Duties/Functions

  • Perform site inspections and develop timely written survey reports with recommendations for corrective actions as appropriate and follow through to execution of those changes.

  • Plan, implement, coordinate, and assess construction incidents, fire prevention, and occupational safety and health programs, utilizing knowledge of industrial safety-related engineering discipline and operating regulations.

  • Develop and recommend new procedures and approaches to safety and loss prevention based on reports of incidents, accidents, and other data gathered from construction personnel.

  • Identify key injury and or safety trends and design and drive new safety programs that improve the jobsite.

  • Review environmental reports when contaminates are identified and verifies the implementation and coordination of health and safety plans with consultants and contractors to satisfy governmental regulations.

  • Lead the investigation of serious incidents or injuries; documents the investigation gathering photos, witness statements, evidence, etc.

  • Serve on the project’s crisis management team as needed; provide timely response and assistance to incidents.

  • Conducts new hire safety orientation, daily safety huddles, weekly toolbox training and annual health and safety training.

  • Handle all interactions with coworkers, subcontractors, clients, the public, etc. in a manner designed to build and maintain long term relationships.

  • Go the extra mile to ensure the project is successful and with complete satisfaction of the client by double checking all critical work deliverables to minimize mistakes.

    Experience & Skills Desired

  • 2 years of experience in leadership and management of processes

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health/Safety or relevant onsite/managerial safety experience

  • 1-2 years of experience as a Safety Specialist within a construction company; with commercial or residential high rise concrete construction experience preferred.

  • Detailed knowledge of federal, state and local regulatory compliance laws with an emphasis on OSHA as demonstrated by prior work experience.

  • Preferred experience with the following programs:

  • Microsoft Office Suite including Word and Excel

    Certificates & Licenses

  • OSHA Authorized 10 and 30-hour Construction Safety and Health Outreach Trainer (OSHA 500)

  • Current CSP, ASP, CHST or other nationally recognized safety and health certifications preferred.
