POLICE RECORDS TECHNICIAN

Salary Range: $23.389 -- $29.851/hour

The City of Walla Walla offers a comprehensive benefits package including medical, vision, and dental health insurance. [NATURE OF POSITION:]{.underline}

This position will provide the initial point of contact for Police Department services. Maintain the records filing system and/or database used to manage, access, and preserve electronic and paper records of criminal justice activities.  Perform and assist in providing accurate information to the public, other law enforcement agencies, courts, jails/prisons, and other local, city, and state departments.  Perform a variety of law enforcement responsibilities regulated by Washington State and Federal laws.

[REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:]{.underline}

High school diploma, GED or equivalent, and two years of general clerical experience involving public contact and computer data entry and retrieval. Valid State driver's license. Ability to obtain required certifications, including certification in ACCESS Level II, within six (6) months of appointment. Attend and complete state training such as FBI NICS for protection orders, gun purchases, and CPLs; Public Records Disclosure training to stay current on new laws and procedures. Applicants must be computer literate and be able to type 25 w.p.m. to continue within the testing process and type 40 w.p.m. by the end of the trial service period.

Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will participate in a testing process consisting of an oral interview and skills testing including typing, Microsoft Word, Office Grammar and Spelling, and Logical Reasoning -- Decision Making.  Candidates must be able to type 25 words per minute (w.p.m.) to pass the typing test and achieve a score of 70% or greater is required to pass each skills test. 

The testing process is scheduled for September 27, September 30, and October 1,2024, and is dependent on the number of applicants passing the minimum scores to proceed to the oral interviews:  

[September 27, 2024]{.underline}: Candidates will participate in a typing test at the City of Walla Walla Service Center, and skills testing (Microsoft Word, Office Grammar and Spelling, and Logical Reasoning -- Decision Making) through WorkSource Walla Walla.

[September 30, and October 1, 2024]{.underline}: The top ten candidates passing the typing test (25 w.p.m.) and skills tests with a score of 70% or greater will advance to the oral interviews. Candidates who are eligible to continue in the testing process will be contacted by Human Resources to schedule the oral interview. Interviews will continue to October 1, 2024 as needed.
