Salary Range:

Firefighter: $5,843 - $7,457/month

Firefighter-Paramedic: $6,661 - $8,501/month

The City of Walla Walla offers a comprehensive benefits package including medical, vision, and dental health insurance. [NATURE OF POSITION]{.underline}

Protect life and property through fire suppression, fire prevention and emergency medical aid.

[REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS]{.underline}

Must be a minimum of 21 years of age by the of hire, a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident, and be a high school graduate or equivalent. Valid State driver's license, a good driving record, and the ability to obtain an Emergency Vehicle Incident Prevention (EVIP) certificate within the first 3 months of hire. Non-user of tobacco products on and off the job. Ability to obtain Washington State EMT certification within the first 3 months of hire date.

Entry-Level Firefighter-Paramedics shall possess Washington State and/or National Registry EMT-P certification; OR will attain certification within six months of the date of hire. [Note]{.underline}: As a condition of employment, employees hired after March 2, 2004, and are currently certified or are expecting to be certified as a paramedic within six months of the completion of their paramedic educational program shall maintain that certification for a period of not less than six (6) years beginning from their date of hire.  Failure to achieve certification within the allotted time may be grounds for termination.

[DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS]{.underline}

Bilingual in Spanish. Have one year paid/volunteer firefighting experience or IFSAC Firefighter I certification.

[APPLICATION AND SELECTION PROCEDURE]{.underline}

To be considered for this position, a completed City application, resume, and supplemental questionnaire must be returned to the Human Resources Department (15 N. 3^rd^ Avenue, Walla Walla, WA  99362), by 5 p.m., on the closing date.  Paramedic candidates must provide (if applicable) EMT-P Certification. 

Testing dates are October 21, 22 and 23, 2024.  Applicants will be notified of testing locations and times as soon as schedules are in place.  Study guides and exam study materials are available from Public Safety Testing (PST) at https://www.publicsafetytesting.com/for-candidates{rel="nofollow"}.

Monday, October 21, 2024: Applicants who meet the minimum requirements will take a written examination and must pass with a minimum score of 70%.  Since the written test results may take up to 24 hours to receive, all candidates will proceed to the physical agility testing. The physical agility testing is pass/fail with a six (6) minute maximum time allowed. Only the top thirty candidates who pass the written examination by 70% or better, and pass the physical agility test, will be placed on the eligibility list.
