EMERGENCY SERVICES DISPATCHER

Salary Range: $23.620 -- $30.151/hour

[NATURE OF POSITION:]{.underline}

Receive incoming calls for ambulance, fire, and law enforcement assistance. Take control of calls and interrogate to obtain all necessary information to dispatch the appropriate units. Dispatch the appropriate units and monitor radio frequencies to maintain the safety of responding field personnel.

[REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS]{.underline}:

High school diploma, GED or equivalent, and two years general clerical experience, including computer data entry and retrieval or two years' experience in a profession involving direct customer service and multi-tasking in a high energy environment, or two years' experience in emergency services.  An Associate degree in a liberal arts field may substitute for the required years of experience.  Applicants must be able to type at 40 w.p.m. and be computer literate.  First Aid, CPR and ACCESS certifications within 6 months of appointment; a background investigation must verify no prior criminal conviction or activity; incumbents must obtain an Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) certificate within one year of appointment. Must successfully complete State Telecommunicator training within one year.

To be considered for this position, a completed City application and resume must be returned to the Human Resources (HR) Department, in City Hall, by October 14 at 5:00 p.m. Applications may be found on the Human Resources page of the City of Walla Walla website:  [www.wallawallawa.gov]{.underline}.  

Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will participate in a testing process consisting of a written exam, typing test, and an oral interview.  A score of 70% is required to pass the written exam, and candidates must be able to type at 40 wpm to pass the typing test.  The testing is scheduled for October 28, through October 30, 2024, as follows:  

[October 28, 2024]{.underline}:  

A written test will be administered starting at 8:00 a.m.  Anyone who has completed the written test will be eligible to participate in the typing test beginning at 1:00 p.m.

As soon as test scores are received in the HR Department will call to schedule interviews on October 28 and 29th with the top 10 candidates who have passed both the written and typing test.  

[October 29 and 30, 2024]{.underline}:

Oral Panel Interviews for the top 10 candidates will begin at 1:00 p.m. Should a tie occur, up to 11 candidates will be interviewed. Interviews will continue October 30, as needed.
