We created the Vets 4 HIRE Program to support Veterans in making a successful transition from military to civilian employment and to provide a pipeline of skilled military talent for positions within King County.

This position will be:

  • in the King County Council; AND
  • in Council Administration and Hearing Examiner Departments; AND
  • full-time, AND
  • one year in duration . Candidates will be screened for meeting the*Vets 4 HIRE eligibility requirements*. Those candidates who meet eligibility requirements will be placed in an eligible candidate pool for King County Council. **

Administrative experiences are a great way to gain knowledge of various career fields. Learning objectives and practical hands-on experience could include: General administrative support; prepare, proofread, edit documents; enter data and maintain a variety of databases; organize and update records/manuals; provide information and assistance to internal/external customers by phone, email or in person; plan and coordinate event logistics; other assignments or projects as needed.   • Maintain inventory and provide a list of items to be ordered. Distribute supplies, and/or equipment

  • Perform data entry
  • Demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills
  • Provide customer service by answering multiple phone lines, providing basic information, transferring calls to appropriate personnel, and greeting guests and visitors
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Sort, stamp and take mail to mail room
  • Sort and distribute mail to staff when mail clerk is not available
  • Update and maintain new employee manual
  • Function as a member of the administrative team; participate in team projects as assigned and back up other administrative staff as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned that support the overall objective of this position Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills

Required Knowledge and Skill

  • Knowledge of general office principles and practices
  • Working knowledge of and skill in using personal computers, copiers, scanners and printers and common desktop productivity software
  • Detail oriented and comfortable working in a fast-paced office environment.
  • Skill in working with a variety of individuals from diverse backgrounds
  • Strong skills in written and verbal communication
  • Strong organizational skills and dedication to completing projects in timely manner
  • Proficient in MS Office with a good grounding in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel and a basic knowledge of Sharepoint Supplemental Information

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift 50 pounds
  • Standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time
  • Bending, squatting, and reaching Possession of a valid driver's license or ability to get to King County office locations not served by public transportation may be required for some positions.

COMPENSATION is based on highest military rank held OR education level.

  • Range 26 - $17.26/hr - $21.88/hr -- High School graduate; OR pursuing BA; OR enlisted grade E4 or lower
  • Range 31 - -$19.43/hr. - $24.63/hr. -- Possess BA; OR pursuing Masters; OR enlisted grade E5 or higher
  • Range 41 - $24.63/hr. - $31.23/hr. -- Completed Masters OR Officer rank
