Otak Inc. Water Resources Designer/EIT in Vancouver, Washington

Otak is currently seeking to hire an Water Resources Designer/EIT to join our Water and Natural Resources team. Our team specializes in analysis and design of stormwater management, natural systems, and stormwater planning. You will collaborate with a team of 20 other Water Resource professionals in the Portland/Vancouver area. Contributing to a diverse array of water resource engineering projects spanning various communities throughout the region on a broad range of public and private sector projects. These projects are often situated within or adjacent to environmentally sensitive areas, and our work is integrated within multi-disciplinary teams to minimize and mitigate the impacts of infrastructure development on natural resources.

As time progresses, you'll gain experience in a diverse range of areas, including surface water planning, urban stormwater management, hydrologic and hydraulic analyses, roadway and private site drainage, fish passage, flood hazard mitigation, and the restoration of river/stream/wetland systems, along with waterfront recreation.

This position may be based out of our Portland, OR or Vancouver, WA office.

What you'll do:

  • Provide support for Stormwater and Green Infrastructure design and Natural Systems projects.
  • Collect, synthesize, analyze, and present data.
  • Prepare design drawings, specifications and cost and schedule estimates.
  • Develop project blueprints.
  • Generate reports for analysis, design, and permitting.
  • Perform GIS mapping and analysis.
  • Conduct hydrologic and hydraulic modeling.
  • Complete design calculations.
  • Assist in construction engineering and site supervision.
  • Collaborate in a multidisciplinary, team-driven setting, meet tight deadlines, and demonstrate independent work capabilities.

What you bring:

  • Bachelor degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience required.
  • Master's degree in Environmental Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, or related engineering program is preferred.
  • Completed a graduate-level course in Open Channel Hydraulics.
  • Must have successfully passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam or be able to complete within six months of hire.
  • Microsoft Office Suite, ArcGIS, and AutoCAD experience or course work required and MicroStation preferred.
  • Experience or course work with hydrologic and hydraulic design calculations using industry standard software (i.e. XP-SWMM, HSPF, HEC-HMS, HydroCAD, WWHM, or similar) is preferred.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.

Please note that the salary information shown below is a general guideline only. Salaries are based upon candidate experience, qualifications, and work location as well as market and business considerations.

$67,000 - $83,000 per year
