The System VP Laboratory Services strategically plans, organizes, and directs the Clinical and Anatomic Laboratory practice and services across PeaceHealth. Serves as the operating executive responsible for the operational and clinical oversight and business expansion of Laboratory and Pathology services across the enterprise. Works in concert with senior leadership to strategically develop PeaceHealth Laboratory expansion opportunities and manage the initiation of developing new business enterprises. Establishes and monitors key operational and performance metrics, program planning and implementation, attainment of top tier quality and effectiveness measures, financial operations management, patient safety, patient experience and assuring regulatory compliance at all times. Contributes to defining system strategic quality goals and ensures goals and objectives in areas of responsibility are aligned with the system's strategic goals and objectives. Serves as a peer with other members of the senior leadership team and is accountable for the integration of laboratory services and improvements to deliver high quality patient-focused care, assuring community and mission needs are served.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Responsible for the operational performance of clinical laboratory services. Develops and implements operational planning and decision-making processes in collaboration with system and network leadership and laboratory partners.

  2. Creates and monitors infrastructure, systems, processes, and standards to achieve desired outcomes as defined in the system strategic goals.

  3. Applies current knowledge and understanding of regulations, industry trends, current best practices, new developments, and applicable laws regarding assigned areas of responsibility for operational and financial effectiveness. Ensures regulatory compliance for all areas of responsibility.

  4. Provides leadership, direction, and support to assigned caregivers. Creates and communicates a vision which motivates caregivers to pursue high standards of excellence and achieves PeaceHealth’s mission of delivering exceptional and compassionate service to each caregiver, every time, every touch.

  5. Develops, implements, and maintains standardized and consistent processes across the system. Works with leadership and staff to implement improvements supportive of a strong and effective operations.

  6. Develops and manages operating and capital budgets of assigned services demonstrating effective stewardship of resources and achieving annual goals.

  7. Collaborates with leaders and providers to formulate strategies and/or initiatives, to advance clinical quality and operational excellence to achieve best practice in patient experience, patient safety, clinical outcomes, operational alignment, caregiver and provider engagement, financial value, and provider satisfaction.

  8. Participates in the strategic and long-range planning of the organization. Provides leadership in determining clinical and organizational goals and develops processes to achieve these goals.

  9. Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor's Degree required in Business, Healthcare Administration, or related field.

  • Master's Degree required or a combination of education and professional experience that provides the caregiver with the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the job.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of 10 years required healthcare management experience.

  • Significant experience establishing and operating inpatient and ambulatory laboratories.

  • Significant operating success in a healthcare leadership role.

  • Experience with proven positive outcomes regarding financial sustainability initiatives.

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • High level of business acumen.

  • Ability to deliver financial results for areas of accountability.

  • Possess a set of skills including, but not limited to, team leadership, conflict resolution, listening skills, and the flexibility to meet the changing needs of the system.

  • Must be an effective collaborative and consensus builder.

  • Maintain skills in process improvement and change management through knowledge of the operational and technical skills needed to meet high-quality outcomes.

  • Knowledge of regulatory compliance, federal and state laws with a working knowledge of multiple disciplines.

  • Must be approachable, show respect for others, and be able to present data with effective communication and presentation skills.

  • Strong written, verbal communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to conceptualize issues and develop pragmatic solutions.

  • Proficient in the use of MS Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint).

The salary range for this job opening at PeaceHealth is $286,600 – $342,000 . The hiring rate is dependent upon several factors, including but not limited to education, training, work experience, seniority, etc.

PeaceHealth requires a completed Primary Vaccine Series (e.g., 2 dose monovalent Pfizer, Moderna or Novavax series or 1 dose J&J vaccine series) or be Up to Date (receiving the most recent Pfizer/Moderna bivalent vaccine/booster) for COVID-19 vaccination prior to their start date. PeaceHealth has a medical and religious exemption request process for those that are unable to receive the COVID-19 primary vaccine series due to medical/religious reasons. For caregivers that will be working in Oregon there is a personal vaccine exemption form that may be requested.
