The Challenge and The Opportunity
As our Surface Pattern Designer you will work closely with the Lead Fabric Designer/Director to develop seamless repeating fabric designs, as well as design fabric-related assets (both internal and customer-facing). You will support the fabric design and development process to yield innovative, commercially viable fabrics that deliver value and style to the consumer for the Connecting Threads brand. An interest in the quilting community and an understanding of how quilts are made is a huge plus.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Meticulously clean existing artwork, and turn vintage and antique art into repeating prints in NED Graphics.
Scan existing fabrics and purchased artworks for fabric design use.
Export files for overseas mill partners. Review strike-off fabrics from the mill with Senior Textile Designer, and check sample yardage color and quality against approved strike-offs.
Design collateral materials for each fabric collection.
Create digital presentations as needed.
Adheres to fabric design and production calendar to ensure deadlines are being met.
Manages and updates fabric design files.
Responsible for consistent color matching throughout fabric collections.
Research: history of fabric era, color palettes, and market research of other brands.
In 30 Days, you will:
Have a basic understanding of the Connecting Threads exclusive fabric lines, ancillary components, the systems to manage them and where the information lives, etc.
In 60 days, you will:
Have a solid understanding of the fabric development process in relation to how the production schedule runs in accordance with the Connecting Threads’ catalog cycles. You will be working alongside the Lead Fabric Designer to complete deliverables and meet deadlines for current and upcoming cycles.
In 90 days, you will:
Have a complete understanding of the fabric design process and be able to jump in as needed with design related duties to effectively develop exclusive fabric collections.

The Skill Set:
Bachelor's degree in Design, preferably Textile Design or related degree
Professional knowledge of Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator.
Proficient in NedGraphics design software.
Prior experience cleaning highly detailed artwork files, color separation, and creating seamless repeating patterns for screen and digital printing processes.
Comfortable working on CAD artwork using a stylus and tablet (Wacom).
Knowledge of using Epson printers and scanners.
Ability to see color accurately and strong understanding of color theory.
Comfortable working on a PC with Microsoft applications such as Excel and Word.
Familiarity working in textile production and with overseas vendors preferred but not required.
Genuine interest in the quilt and craft industry with an emphasis in fabric development and production.
Knowledge of quilting cotton, fabric design, sewing, and/or thread a plus.
