Summary This position is located within the VA Portland Health Care System (VAPORHCS), Environmental Management Service (EMS) as part of the Textile Care Processing Facility (TCPF). The Supply Technician's primary functions include maintaining, coordinating, controlling and documenting the receipt and distribution of general use linens, uniforms, patient clothing, and specialty linen items used within VAPORHCS. Responsibilities THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION Major duties and responsibilities include: Responsible for the oversight and management of the uniform, linen, and scrub automated Distribution Systems. Analyzing computer-generated data and making independent decisions and/or recommendations to the Laundry Supervisor or Textile Care Manager relating to linen/uniform procurement, stock levels, quotas, inventory data and budgeting information. Planning transitions of uniforms as new or modified clothing items are introduced into the Uniform Distribution System and arranges for the disposition of obsolete stock. Reporting defective clothing items to Laundry Supervisor for return to manufacturer or disposition. Processing employee information in Uniform Distribution System for RFID scanning and producing receipt of uniform items issued and uniform items turned in for employee clearance of indebtedness. Identifying possible substitutions and items requiring intensive monitoring and control. Assisting Laundry Supervisor in researching, coordinating, preparing, and maintaining supply related Standard Operating Procedures for uniform, linen, and scrub distribution and inventory management. Conducting technical functions involving oversight of stocked uniforms, linens, and scrubs. This involves the identification of requirements needed by the clinics forecast of projected demands, ordering, receiving, storage, and the identification/disposal of excess items no longer needed by the medical facilities. Preparing monthly and quarterly reports of par level discrepancies reported to Textile Care Manager and Textile Care Committee. Performing other duties as assigned. Qualifications IN ORDER TO QUALIFY FOR THIS POSITION AT THE GS-5 LEVEL YOU MUST MEET THE FOLLOWING: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: You must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position, and that is typically in or related to the position. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-4 level of Federal service. Qualifying specialized experience includes maintaining, coordinating, controlling and documenting the receipt and distribution of general use linens, uniforms, patient clothing, and specialty linen items; coordinating and executing daily cycle count procedures to identify items for replenishment and determining the causes of inventory discrepancies; monitoring stock levels and requesting purchases of program non-repetitive items; screening and preparing supply requests for verifications of nomenclatures, quantity, unit of issue, and determines availability. (THIS EXPERIENCE MUST BE SUPPORTED BY YOUR RESUME TO BE CREDITABLE.) OR EDUCATION SUBSTITUTION: You must have successfully completed 4 years above high school in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. This education must be obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Physical Requirements: Employee does substantial walking and standing as well as some lifting. It may be necessary for employee to lift items weighing up to 50 pounds with assistance. It may be necessary for the employee to intermittently push/pull uniform carts weighing up to 800 pounds with assistance. Employee may need to perform duties that require bending, stooping or climbing on ladders. The work entails the handling of clean and soiled linen/clothing and storage of bulk scrubs and uniforms and is subject to cuts, bruises, strains, and slips. Incumbent normally works indoors where heat, light and ventilation are adequate but is required to work around carts and machines requiring special safety precautions. There is the possibility of exposure to contagions and sharps puncture from the handling of soiled uniforms and scrubs. The employee is required to use protective clothing to mitigate all hazards of contamination and/or puncture and must be constantly alert to avoid possible safety hazards, eliminate them if possible, and report them to supervisor when encountered.
