WSP USA Senior Civil Engineer - Hydropower and Utility Services in Vancouver, Washington

WSP is currently initiating a search for a full-time Senior Civil Engineer - Hydropower and Utility Services for our Portland, OR office.

The following locations will also be considered: Vancouver, WA or Salt Lake City, UT .

Be involved in projects within our Clean Energy Business Line and be a part of a part of a rapidly expanding group that provides trusted advisor and engineer of record services to Hydropower and Utility clients throughout the United States.

This Opportunity:

This position directly advances our clients responses to Climate Change by supporting the owners and operators of clean hydro power and the integration of other renewable energy resources nationwide. This role provides Civil Engineering expertise, including high-level technical assistance and guidance for multi-site/phase due diligence, investigation, remediation, impact assessment, permitting, design, development, and construction of hydropower infrastructure and related energy projects. Tasks the research, design, concept development, planning, and construction of energy facilities, specifically hydropower, as well as solar, wind or biomass power plants; transmission and distribution facilities. Substantiates reports and documentation to advise on material, installations, design, component, and construction specifications. Your days will be a mix of working from the home or the office, and field trips to the nation’s majestic mountains and rivers.

Your Impact:

  • Perform engineering duties from conceptual stages of projects through construction.

  • This position is accountable to provide the design activities in accordance with all applicable codes and standards, including all WSP’s policies and procedures, such as Safety, Environmental, Quality Assurance and Quality Control.

  • Civil site design including earthwork, stabilization, station layouts, etc.

  • Delivery of accurate and thorough designs that will meet industry standards and specifications and meet good engineering practice with excellent constructability.

  • Review of internal and external designs for code compliance, good design practice and constructability.

  • Procurement of materials, project cost estimating, and quality control reviews.

  • Resolving site queries, attending site meetings and performing site inspections during the construction phase of projects.

  • Maintaining complete project documentation with respect to substation design and construction, including all completion packages, as-built requirements and return data information.

  • Making and maintaining appropriate commitments to project teams and coordinating design activities with multi-disciplined project team members.

  • Maintaining good working relationships with internal groups that support projects.

  • Maintaining good working relationships with material suppliers, contractors, and any others that affect the quality, schedule and cost of projects.

  • Work with drafting resources to prepare drawings and specifications for various deliverables.

  • Regularly meets and corresponds with clients, material vendors, sub-contractors, etc.

  • Travel for project site visits and field reviews.

Required Qualifications

  • Employment authorization to work in the United States immediately

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited engineering program

  • 5+ years of relevant post education experience in hydro power engineering and design experience.

  • Proficiency with technical writing, office automation, discipline-specific design software (i.e., MicroStation, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, LPILE, MFAD, ArcGIS, InRoads, Geopak, GeoSlope, ANSYS, STADD, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS), Flow 3D, technology, math principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools.

  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

  • Familiarity with design codes and standards: NESC, IEC, CSA, IEEE, ANSI, IBC, ASCE

  • Proficiency in writing and providing support documentation for engineering calculations

  • Experienced user MS Office applications, strong written and verbal communication skills and attention to detail

  • Candidate must undergo pre-employment drug screening and a criminal background investigation.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in civil engineering.

  • Engineer license or the ability to acquire within one year (Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Utah, California, Nevada, or Montana preferred).

  • 40-Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) (29 CFR 1910.120) preferred.

  • Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training desired.

Compensation:

  • Expected Salary (Vancouver, WA) $88,000 - $145,000

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and/or offer for this, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location.
