Weyerhaeuser Safety Liaison I in Vancouver, Washington

Weyerhaeuser’s Health and Safety team is looking for a dynamic individual who is passionate about workplace health and safety, a clear communicator, and strong collaborator. This position requires technical knowledge of health and safety regulations and the ability to work in teams and independently. The ideal candidate will have experience in forestry, or a related industry.

The health and safety team is committed to eliminating injuries and improving the company’s safety program and performance. Our team provides our leaders with strategic guidance and support and executes plans to improve our safety program. This position is full-time and will report to the Health and Safety Director with a strong partnership with the Timberlands business. This position will require travel (up to 50% of the time) in the US and Canada.

Location:This role can be based out of our Seattle, WA headquarters OR wood products operations located in Vancouver, WA on a hybrid schedule which allows for remote work Monday and Friday, and onsite Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Relocation is not available.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide functional safety leadership across Timberlands
  • Implement the Weyerhaeuser Safety System within Timberlands
  • Seek best practices and promote standardization and efficient use of resources across Timberlands.
  • Understand operations and develop working relationships with Timberlands’ contractor base.
  • Provide technical health and safety guidance and support to the Timberlands organization on risk reduction strategies and application of regulatory requirements (US and provincial)
  • Partner with the business and industry associations to identify and implement innovative technologies and controls to reduce risk and eliminate injuries.
  • Support interaction between Timberlands and regulatory agencies
  • Lead critical incident investigations to identify root causes and corrective actions and communicate findings across the organization. Support proper classification and recording of injuries and illnesses
  • Support the business with regulatory/enforcement activities working with Legal.
  • Develop the annual safety audit schedule, and lead and participate in audits including review and approval of corrective actions.
  • Help select, train and mentor individual Timberlands’ business safety contacts
  • Lead the safety business contact connection meeting and coordinate execution of health and safety activities across Timberlands regions.
  • Collaborate with the Health and Safety team and organizations including Legal, Engineering, HR and Communications to support Timberlands safety and health efforts.
  • Partner with the business to develop health and safety standards and tools for use across Timberlands
  • Work safely in full compliance with Weyerhaeuser’s policies and guidelines.
  • Role model all standards/processes and on-the-job behavior by living our core values of safety, integrity, sustainability, inclusion and citizenship.

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in occupational health and safety, industrial hygiene or related scientific discipline such as forestry or forest engineering

  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or equivalent is desired, or actively working to attain such certification(s)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work within a team environment.
  • High level of independence, initiative and motivation.
  • Ability to travel up to 50% of the time including US and Canada; ability to work in rugged terrain and inclement weather.

Compensation:This role is eligible for our annual merit-increase program, and we are targeting a salary range of $95,000 to $142,500 based on your level of skills, qualifications and experience. You will also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program, which offers a cash bonus targeting 10% of base pay. Potential plan funding may range from zero to two times that target.

In addition, after being employed for six months, eligible employees begin to accrue vacation for future use. We also recognize eleven paid holidays per year, providing a total of 88 holiday hours.
