Overview

As a Project Engineer you will be assisting with the operational and administrative control of projects assigned, and assuming responsibility for guiding outcomes of projects. Project Engineers are responsible for gaining experience within the industry and knowing the company's personnel, methods, programs, and policies. You will coordinate with field labor to ensure the work is completed safely, on schedule, and up to JR Merit's quality standards.

This position has regular contact with all levels of internal and field staff, the Operations and Executive Leadership Teams, customers, and third-party partners and vendors. This position reports directly to a Project Manager and is considered part of the Operations team. This role is based out of our corporate office and requires in-office presence.

Essential Functions:

  • Assist with various aspects of a project including quantity takeoffs, proposal development, project setup, accounting, procurement, production tracking, budget forecasting, risk management, safety, and quality.

  • Read plans and specifications and understand the desired final construction outcome.

  • Develop key relationships with proven subcontractors and actively participate in customer engagement.

  • Mentor and train others in areas of proficiency.

  • Develop and maintain fundamental project schedules utilizing scheduling software.

  • Support change management on projects.

  • Demonstrate clear and effective written communication with internal and external partners.

  • Ability to adhere to deadlines while maintaining focus, high attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.

Required Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of experience in industrial, mechanical, or heavy civil construction.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Construction Engineering, Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Operations Management, or a related field. Equivalent technical experience may be accepted in lieu of a degree.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of industrial construction terminology.

  • Critical thinking skills and ability to solve problems independently.

  • Proficient technical/computer skills with advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.

  • Experience utilizing systems such as estimating software, Viewpoint, and Procore.

  • Strong interpersonal communication skills, presentation skills, and professionalism.

  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse team to achieve results.

  • Strong organization and time management skills.

  • Knowledge of estimating production factors, such as MCAA or work activity methods.

  • Knowledge of labor rate development, cost types/phases, and T&M rate structures.

Working Conditions:

  • This position is based out of our corporate office in Vancouver, WA. Frequent travel or temporary relocation may be required to support JR Merit’s projects.

  • This role requires in-office presence.

  • This role requires the ability to utilize, maintain, and wear all PPE as required by JR Merit, the client, and any other applicable regulatory agency or management directive.

  • At times, work may be performed at a jobsite where additional training, certifications, or clearances may be needed to comply with jobsite requirements.

  • Must be able to lift, carry, and move up to 50 pounds as needed.

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

Compensation Range:

$71,500-100,000
