Banfield Pet Hospital Payroll Intern in Vancouver, Washington

This will be a hybrid role based out of the Banfield Pet Hospital headquarters in Vancouver, WA.

Salary Range: $16.28 - $20.18/hour

Summary and Qualifications:

The Payroll Intern will be responsible for assisting the payroll team in processing employee payroll accurately and on time. They will learn about payroll procedures and assist in ensuring that all payroll documents and records are accurate and up-to-date.

Essential Responsibilities and Tasks:

  • Live and exemplify the Five Principles of Mars, Inc. within self and team.

  • Assist the payroll team in the preparation, processing and distribution of employee paychecks.

  • Coordinate with impacted functional areas to ensure tasks and due dates are managed to, and represented on, respective project schedules.

  • Assist in maintaining payroll records and ensuring accuracy of employee data

  • Assist in verifying payroll calculations and deductions.

  • Provide support in resolving payroll discrepancies and responding to employee payroll-related inquiries.

  • Assist in filing and maintaining all payroll-related documents and records.

  • Assist in ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal payroll regulations.

  • Provide regular project status reports to supervisor and Project Sponsor, as well as key stakeholders and project team.

  • Other job duties as assigned.

Special Working Conditions:

  • Ability to work at a computer for long periods of time.

  • Project timelines and work volume/deadlines may often require more than 40 hours per week to complete essential duties of this job.

  • Must have mental processes for reasoning, remembering, mathematics and language ability (reading, writing, and speaking the English language) to perform the duties proficiently.

  • Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form and to solve problems involving several variables.

  • Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb as well as manipulate (lift, carry, move) up to 50 pounds.

  • Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm-hand-finger dexterity with the ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard and operate necessary equipment.

  • The noise level in the work environment is normally moderate.

  • Environment where pets are present.

Experience, Education and/or Training:

  • Current enrollment for a degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred.

  • A minimum GPA of 3.0 is required.

  • The ability to work a minimum of 35 hours per week for 9 – 12 weeks during the specified dates of internship is required.

  • Strong mathematical and analytical skills are preferred.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word is preferred.

  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy is preferred.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team is preferred.

  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, are preferred.

  • Knowledge of basic accounting principles is preferred.
