Thompson Metal Fab Paint Superintendent in Vancouver, Washington
Thompson Metal Fab is a well-established veteran-owned heavy structural steel and plate fabrication business in Vancouver, WA. We are seeking an experienced Paint Superintendent to play a key leadership role in planning, organizing, and supervising all painting and coating projects. This position ensures that all projects meet company standards and objectives for safety, quality, and efficiency, while also collaborating with upper management to support business goals.

Salary for this position ranges between $80,000 and $130,000 annually, depending on experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan, organize, and manage all coating project schedules and budgets, ensuring alignment with company goals.
- Assist in preparing coatings estimates for high profile bids.
- Provide support to Project Managers regarding coatings for both ongoing and upcoming projects.
- Coordinate with QA and PMs on preparation of Paint Plans and PQWPs.
- Monitor inventories and order all coatings, paint supplies, and consumables.
- Supervise paint foremen and other team members to confirm adherence to quality standards, including ensuring regular and punctual attendance, training on the proper use of and techniques for industrial blasting and painting equipment, and conducting detailed performance reviews.
- Ensure adherence to overhead budget for the Paint Department.
- Build and maintain open communication and positive working relationships with clients, agencies, inspectors, and team members.
- Ensure adequate staffing levels based on forecasted and scheduled work.
- Make sure painters are inspecting their own work. And ensure proper coordination with QA/QC.
- Enforce all safety rules and company policies, including immediate reporting of all injuries.
- Conduct weekly safety meetings in collaboration with the Safety Department.
- Collaborate with executive management on policy decisions and CapEx investments.
- Maintain timely, thorough, and accurate production records, quality documentation, daily timesheets, safety forms, and purchase orders.
- Ensure all dew point, wet film, and dry film readings are being completed; along with blast profiles and other necessary in-process and final inspections as required by project specifications.
- Oversee repair and preventative maintenance of equipment.
- Ensure employee training programs are sufficient and collaborate with support staff to make improvements.
- Initiate and contribute to various continuous process and operational improvements.
- Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Five (5) or more years of experience in industrial coatings, including experience with major bridges, USACE projects, DOT projects, or other specialty coatings.
- Three (3) or more years supervisory experience.
- NACE Level I certification is required; NACE Level III certification is preferred.
- Familiarity with SSPC guidelines, especially SSPC-C 7 and SSPC-C 12 requirements.
- Strong knowledge of sophisticated industrial painting and sandblasting techniques, with the ability to diagnose and troubleshoot coating failures.
- Execute job tasks with a high level of precision and care.
- Capable of managing shared resources across multiple projects.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
- Willingness to be flexible on work hours as needed.
