THE JOB We are currently hiring a Marine Diesel Mechanic to be responsible for diagnosing and performing mechanical maintenance and repair on all equipment and vessel systems onboard tugs and barges which may include diesel engines (CAT, John Deere), marine gears, propeller shafting components, hydraulic steering system components, water and fuel pumps, air compressors, air control systems, all vessel plumbing systems, PTO clutches, and vertical cargo pumps. This position will also perform equipment safety inspections and routine preventative maintenance such as changing oil, checking batteries, and lubricating equipment and machinery while also completing testing on equipment and systems to diagnose malfunctions and/or ensure equipment is working properly.

THE CATCH • Requires a high school diploma or equivalent with a minimum of three years' experience as a diesel, truck, or heavy industry mechanic or millwright. • Five or more years' experience as a diesel mechanic including CAT 3500 engines, electronic controls, hydraulics, compressed air systems and reading and comprehending mechanic drawings is preferred. • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) Card from the Department of Homeland Security. • Must have a valid Drivers' License and an insurable driving record. • Physical Requirements: o Ability to operate equipment including electric power tools, hand tools, grinders, hydraulic jacks, forklifts, drills, come-alongs, chain hoist, etc. o Pulls, pushes and/or lifts a variety of equipment and parts requiring forces up to 70 pounds. o Work is performed in a shop environment, dock and on tugboats and barges, as job duties require. • All employment offers are contingent on the successful completion of a pre-employment physical, drug screen, criminal background check, and driving record check.
