Humana Lead IT Project Manager in Vancouver, Washington


The IT Project Management Lead oversees various system projects and/or programs of a highly complex nature. The IT Project Management Lead works on problems of diverse scope and complexity ranging from moderate to substantial.


The IT Project Management Lead is an inspirational leader who assembles and leads project/program teams, identifies appropriate resources needed, and guides the development of schedules to ensure timely completion of project work. Often actively manages stakeholder partnerships and mitigates risks. Familiar with the program scope and objectives, as well as the role and function of each team member, in order to effectively coordinate the activities of the team. When managing programs, oversees the interdependencies and integration of interrelated projects, and sets strategies and leads program execution to deliver longer term business value. Can possess specialized knowledge of Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) frameworks used to manage risks and issues unique to technology projects. Advises executives to develop functional strategies (often segment specific) on matters of significance. Exercises independent judgment and decision making on complex issues regarding job duties and related tasks, and works under minimal supervision, Uses independent judgment requiring analysis of variable factors and determining the best course of action.

The person in this role need knowledge of product program structure and mature agile ways of working to guide and drive Agile lean best practices to ensure that we deliver the highest value.

The successful candidate will be a self-starting team leader, who works independently to guide the team with little guidance once a direction is chosen and is capable of building positive/trusting relationships with leaders and the teams they work with.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Information Technology or a related field

  • 8 or more years of technical experience or equivalent related job experience

  • 2 or more years of project leadership experience

  • Extensive management experience in a large corporate technical environment, with oversight across diverse technical platforms including Web, Mainframe and Client Server

  • Demonstrated experience in technical product selection, technical design and practical implementation of IT solutions

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Experience with managing agile programs at the solution level

  • Outstanding leadership and organizational skills

  • Excellent problem-solving ability

  • Must be passionate about contributing to an organization focused on continuously improving consumer experiences

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in a technical field of study or MBA

  • SAFe Agilist (SA) or SAFe Program Consultant (SPC) certification

  • Six Sigma and/or Project Management Institute certification

  • Experience in the health solutions industry
