Vancouver Housing Authority Housing Inspector in Vancouver, Washington

At the Vancouver Housing Authority (VHA) we provide affordable housing and housing assistance to low-income residents in Clark County and work closely with local governments and other community partners to address issues of affordable housing and homelessness. The Housing Inspector inspects Housing Choice Voucher (Section 8) homes to ensure a safe and healthy environment in compliance with VHA and Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Housing Quality Standards, while fostering positive relationships with residents, landlords, and colleagues.
Your skills and experience will support our mission as you:
- Conduct inspections of Section 8 housing units to ensure compliance with HUD regulations and housing quality standards.
- Maintain accurate inspection records, documenting safety and quality issues.
- Advise staff, residents, and landlords on hazards, repairs, and improvement requirements.
- Schedule and manage annual re-inspections, addressing any needed adjustments.
- Support the termination process by reporting discrepancies and participating in hearings.
- Perform additional inspections, including move-outs, quality control, and special requests.
Pay and Benefits
- The starting pay range is $27.29 - $30.02 based on experience. In compliance with the Equal Pay & Opportunities Act, the full pay range is $27.29 - $38.20 per hour.
- Full-time, non-exempt, union-represented position.

Requirements
- High school diploma required. Some higher-level education or vocational training specializing in construction or housing inspection preferred.
- Requires at least 2 years of related experience.
- Must have Housing Quality Standards certification or successfully obtain certification within 6 months of employment.
- Driving record sufficient to meet VHA insurance requirements.
