Summary of Duties

 

The Development and Alumni Relations Specialist is responsible for planning, coordinating, and reporting within the WSU Vancouver Office of Development and Alumni Relations. In this role, the Specialist supports the Director/Associate Vice President of Development who works with academic and/or campus leaders, system leaders, volunteers, and other development teams on philanthropic activities. The Specialist also works closely with the Director/AVP to coordinate workflow and handle special projects. The Specialist provides oversight of day-to-day operations, including administrative functions for the WSU Vancouver Development and Alumni Relations office.

 

The Specialist, under general direction, performs work using knowledge and experience specific to the WSU Foundation, WSU Vancouver, and WSU Constituency-based development programs. The Specialist may also act on behalf of the unit to perform duties consistent with the units' responsibilities. The Specialist will communicate with donors and alumni regarding current and potential gifts, endowment agreements, gift planning documents, non-cash gifts and other information, including confidential gift information. The Specialist provides technical support to the development officers on gift processing, receipts, and acknowledgements.

 

The Specialist will be the main point of contact on funds involving donor gifts to help ensure donor gift intent. They will exercise independent judgement in interpreting and applying the rules, policies, and ethics of professional fundraising activities. Independently advise and recommend courses of action in development and support staff, donors, friends, and alumni regarding program content, policies, procedures, and activities. This position has extensive involvement with staff, donors, friends, alumni, foundation and corporation representatives and coordinates, assists, schedules, and monitors fundraising activities to ensure consistency with overall development goals for WSU Vancouver.

 

Will share in supervision and training of temporary workers and others who are providing staff support to the advancement (Foundation and Alumni Relations) unit.

Required Qualifications

 

A bachelor's degree OR equivalent education/experience.

 

Two years of work experience in development/fundraising or equivalent education/experience.

 

Preferred Qualifications

 

Experience in higher education or similar complex organization.

 

Previous coordination and project management responsibilities, including demonstrated ability to create, initiate, strategize, and organize activities, events, or programs.

 

A valid driver's license.
