Qualifications:

  • Must hold or eligible for a Career and Technical Education (CTE) certificate in Family & Consumer Science; or be eligible by demonstrating a minimum of three years of gainful employment (non-teaching) in a variety of early childhood education, health and fitness/wellness assignments; two years within the last six years is preferable

  • Ability to share knowledge with real-life applications

  • Demonstrated successful teaching experience with high school students, preferred

  • Demonstrated experience in the field of Early Childhood Education, Nutrition, and/or Health and Fitness

  • Ability to provide instruction in Early Childhood Education, Health and Fitness, Personal Nutrition, GRADS Teen Parenting and/or Family Psychology

  • Knowledge and understanding of the principles and methods of effective instruction and understanding of State content standards

  • Experience working in collaborative groups

  • Willingness to actively develop and maintain business partnerships

  • Must be able to infuse contextual learning opportunities into subject area

  • Ability to teach a variety of developmental levels, grades 9-12

  • Possession of or ability to earn and maintain a First Aid/CPR Card

  • Ability to work cooperatively with students and their parents who are culturally, racially, and linguistically diverse

  • Advanced ability to use technology as an effective communication, planning and instructional tool

  • Willingness to participate in professional development courses aligned with the school and district initiatives

Essential Functions:

  • Must adhere to the Career Education and Technical program standards set by the Superintendent of Public Instruction for vocational education inWashingtonState. Standards include:

  • Provide student leadership opportunities for further growth and professional development

  • Lead and/or participate on Career Education and Technical advisory committee meetings

  • Attend state-sponsored, required workshops and conferences

  • Articulate classes with post-secondary education

  • Develop and maintain business partnerships

  • Design learning experiences and assessments that allow students to demonstrate learning

  • Cooperate as a professional team member on both the building and district level

  • Learn and infuse emerging technologies into teaching, learning, and assessment

  • Maintain effective student management in a non-coercive, positive environment

  • Maintain flexibility with students, staff, and physical space in an evolving educational environment

  • Communicate effectively with students and to build a strong language program

  • Handle discipline in a positive manner; classroom management skills

  • Work and plan cooperatively with other teachers, administrators, counselors and community members

  • Willingness to accept extra-curricular assignment, including student leadership organizations such as Family, Career & Community Leaders of America (FCCLA)

  • Provide an instructional program for students geared to meet their individual needs at their instructional level

  • Apply teaching strategies that include the direct, cooperative and individual models

  • Actively engage students in using technology in individual and collaborative learning activities

  • Works in a flexible and cooperative manner

  • Treats co-workers, supervisors, students, parents and others with dignity and respect at all time

  • Serves as a positive role model for students, and practices the behaviors that are expected of our students

  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance and hours of operation as set by the assigned building/location and the Comprehensive Professional Agreement to carry out the duties and responsibilities of the position to achieve program requirements

  • Other duties as assigned

Benefits/Compensation:

  • Salary range: $62,925 - $118,608 (includes Base & TRI enrichment; commensurate upon FTE, degree, credits and experience). Salary schedules can be accessed here (https://vansd.org/salary-schedules/) .

  • Additional Compensation: Certificated positions may have additional pay provisions above what is represented on the salary range such as, but not limited to TRI professional learning, extended year days, extra appendix E supplemental days and professional development reimbursement.   • Sick Leave: 8 hours per month (part-time employee accrual will be proportionate to their FTE).
