Actalent Cad Technician in Vancouver, Washington

Actalent is currently seeking a qualified CAD Technician for a consultant position with Bonneville Power in Vancouver, WA.

This CAD Technician position will support the Specialty Services (TETS) group within the Commissioning and Testing (TET) organization at Bonneville Power Administration (BPA). This position will collaborate and work closely with electrical engineers and electrical engineering technicians to verify that all marked up drawings are properly received, revisions are completed accurately, and within established timelines. This position facilitates CAD revisions of electrical drawings across BPA’s service territory except in the situation that redlines are contracted out to an external company.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Use MicroStation CAD software and/or other software applications to prepare project designs, sketches, final / working drawings, and draft contract documents related to construction design packages.

  • Perform sub-system user file management within CAD systems, such as plotting, printing, storage and retrieving, and returning drawings from ProjectWise.

  • Review rough/preliminary sketches, drawings, specifications, and other engineering data received from engineers, to validate that they conform to design concepts.

  • Examine electronic schematics and supporting documents to develop, compute, and verify specifications for drafting data.

  • Provide quality design, layout, and production of engineering, electrical, electronic, and fiber optic drawings.

  • Perform necessary research utilizing existing drawings including that of facility, standards, plan, profile, hardware, and survey drawings as needed to prepare accurate drawing packages and/or to answer related questions.

  • Assist in pre-engineering calculations and research to control product reliability and accuracy for engineering, technical, and commercial applications.

  • Perform duties essential to the preparation of engineering design drawings for Substation Design, Fiber Optic Design, including details, assemblies, installations, and minor layouts.

  • Organize and analyze drawings prior to setup and discuss project complexity and time estimates with technical and managerial personnel.

  • Perform assignments requiring expertise in computer-aided drafting using MicroStation CAD Software, including 3D.

  • Assist with special projects such as various installation diagrams, structure modifications, design drawings, standard hardware details, and others as required.

  • Assist in the documentation of Substation projects by assembling bills of material, drawing lists, and other design documents from the design standards.

  • Travel to field sites to obtain and verify site-specific project layout information for the purpose of verifying design data and record revision. This will not include escorting.

  • Draft work that comes from Engineers in the group as well as field red lines; use advanced CAD skills that meet the BPA and TETS level required for CAD quality.

  • Research and report on missing information from data sheets and record / update as appropriate.

  • Develop / draft equipment rack layouts with minimal input from engineers.

  • Check all CAD and manually drafted drawings and other documents for drafting accuracy, completeness and conformity to BPA standards and applicable regulations, making necessary corrections before review by engineers.

  • Provide Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC) for Substation Redlined drawings.

  • Provide technical assistance to new and/or less experienced team members regarding established organizational procedures and guidelines, industry, and/or BPA standards, advanced techniques, etc., as requested.

  • Maintain a thorough familiarity with industry, organizational, and BPA standards as needed.

  • Assist with various administrative duties, such as engineering record maintenance which includes keeping switching files updated, obtaining new drawing numbers, inputting drawing information into the organization’s CAD database at the various stages of the CAD process, and completing necessary forms to submit final drawings to central records.

  • Perform basic filing and document management functions. Create and maintain files and filing system(s) in accordance with compliance requirements. Mark documents and maintain filing system(s), files, emails, and records in accordance with compliance requirements. Share and disperse documents only to appropriate personnel (those with a Lawful Government Purpose (LGP) to know). Mark and maintain all official records in accordance with the Information Security (INFOSEC) and Information Governance & Lifecycle Management (IGLM) standards and procedures. Validate official records are accurately maintained for auditing purposes.

  • Maintain CAD templates, including the template database and the associated SharePoint site.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED is required.

  • An associate or higher college degree in a technical CAD training program is preferred.

  • 4 years of CAD drafting experience is required.

  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite software including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook.

  • Experience with MicroStation CAD software.

  • Experience with ProjectWise.

Preferred:

  • Ability to analyze and effectively document large volumes of technical data is essential.

  • Proven ability to effectively manage multiple work assignments and changing priorities.

  • Skill in oral and written communication to effectively fulfill client/customer/team requirements.

  • Experience participating in and performing effectively in a project team environment.

  • Previous experience working in the utility industry.

  • Proficiency with MS SharePoint to aid in updating group site with additional links to share data.
