Washington State Informatics Epidemiologist (Epi 3) Project (DOH5587) in Tumwater, Washington

Description The Informatics Epidemiologist provides informatics and data science leadership for Office of Infectious Disease (OID) by independently documenting current surveillance processes, data, and data systems including gap analysis and unmet need documentation. This is a full-time project position within the Division of Disease Control and Health Statistics (DCHS), OID, Assessment and is currently funded through September 30, 2023. DCHS is a community health partner using innovative methods to provide quality health information, vital records, and assessment services for taking public health actions, developing public health policy, and conducting assessment activities to improve the health of the people of Washington. Currently, this position may be located anywhere within the State of Washington. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, telework (mobile-work) is expected. When approved to return, the incumbent will work with their supervisor to identify an appropriate work schedule and balance, including telework and reporting to the Tumwater, WA duty station for work activities. Duties Include * Reviewing technical specifications and database design for current HIV and STD surveillance data systems. Create documentation as needed. * Coordinating business requirement elicitation for current systems and unmet needs. Document business requirements. Document process inefficiencies. * Coordinating business requirement elicitation with select LHJs for HIV and STD processes. Document needs, what is currently working, what is not working, what do they hope to see, and current process inefficiencies. * Creating agency required Business Readiness documentation for a combined HIV and STD surveillance data system. Work with HTS staff to ensure that documentation meets the requirements for Business Readiness. * Presenting findings to HIV and STD surveillance staff, OID management, Division leadership, and LHJ program staff and leadership. * Conducting reviews of current data system options and makes recommendations to HIV and STD surveillance staff. They demonstrate resilience to model outward behaviors even when stressed or tired. *Required Qualifications * Option 1: Bachelor’s degree in health informatics, public health, science, epidemiology, public policy or health policy, health services research, health information sciences, computer science, or closely related field; and six (6) or more years of professional experience in a healthcare or public health setting with health informatics responsibilities. * Option 2: Master’s degree or higher from an accredited graduate school with a focus in public health, public health informatics, health care informatics, information technology, computer science, information science, public policy or health policy, statistics or related field; and four (4) or more years of professional experience in a healthcare or public health setting with health informatics responsibilities. * Option 3: Doctoral-level degree in informatics, public health, health science, management information systems and technology, computer science or closely related field; and two (2) or more years of experience doing senior-level public health informatics work. * Option 4: Nine (9) or more years of experience in a healthcare or public health setting with health informatics responsibilities. * Health informatics responsibilities include conducting and/or supporting informatics projects including scientific investigations, information architecture management, and implementing data and information standards. *Desired Qualifications * * Demonstrated experience in/with the following: * Business process mapping or requirements gathering. * System requirements for life course surveillance. * Informatics with notifiable conditions data. *Application Process Intrigued?
