PAY RANGE

The Target Pay Range for this position is $30.19-$36.78 hourly. The full Pay Range is $23.42-$43.56 hourly. At BECU, compensation decisions are determined using factors such as relevant job-related skills, experience, and education or training. Should an offer for employment be made, we will consider individual qualifications. In addition to your salary, compensation incentives are available for the hired applicant. Incentives are performance based and targets vary by role.

Employees have access to disability and AD&D insurance. We also offer health care and dependent care flexible spending accounts, as well as health savings accounts, to eligible employees. Employees are able to enroll in our company’s 401k plan and employer-funded retirement plan. Newly hired employees accrue 6.16 hours of paid time off (PTO) on a per pay period basis based on hours worked (up to a maximum of 160 PTO hours per year) and receive ten paid holidays throughout the calendar year. IMPACT YOU’LL MAKE:

As the Senior Collection and Recovery Support Specialist, you'll be at the heart of BECU’s financial operations, ensuring that complex legal and financial transactions are handled seamlessly. Your role will empower you to process deposit account and loan charge-offs, manage debt recovery, and handle crucial legal processes such as garnishments and levies. You will be the go-to expert, providing vital support to colleagues and members alike, ensuring that our financial systems run efficiently. Your contributions will help protect the financial health of BECU and ensure the best outcomes for our members. In this role, your attention to detail, proactive problem-solving, and member-first mindset will leave a lasting impact.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

  • Process Charge-Offs: Manage the transition of accounts from active to charge-off status, ensuring that memberships are terminated when the Credit Union incurs losses due to write-offs.

  • Handle Involuntary Closures: Perform system maintenance and documentation to process involuntary closures of revolving and deposit accounts, helping BECU minimize risk.

  • Manage Payments and Adjustments: Process payments and adjustments to charged-off accounts, maintaining accurate balances in the general ledger to keep finances on track.

  • Bankruptcy Account Processing: Facilitate payments from Bankruptcy Trustees on active and charged-off accounts, ensuring compliance and accuracy.

  • Loan Modification Processing: Execute system maintenance and documentation for loan modifications, collaborating with Bankruptcy, Loss Management, and Member Assistance teams.

  • Ensure Legal Compliance: Stay up-to-date on state and federal regulations to ensure BECU adheres to all laws regarding adjustments, recovery, and garnishments.

  • External Debt Management: Process and follow up on debt management program requests, ensuring external partnerships operate smoothly.

  • Insurance Premium Adjustments: Work with Credit Protection Insurance (CPI) vendors to assess premiums, issue refunds, and adjust loan payments, ensuring accuracy for members.

  • General Ledger Maintenance: Balance and report on applicable general ledgers, playing a key role in BECU’s financial accountability.

  • Legal Garnishments and Levies: Process garnishments, levies, and OTWAD orders in accordance with legal standards, safeguarding the Credit Union and our members.

  • Provide Expert Support: Respond to internal and external inquiries with professionalism and efficiency, acting as the first point of escalation for issues.

  • Mentor and Train: Assist in training staff, sharing your expertise to maintain operational excellence across the department.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent experience.

  • Minimum three years of experience in one or more of the following areas: Collections, loan servicing or deposit operations.

  • Proven ability to work with accuracy and attention to detail.

  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.

  • Time-management skills, with the ability to meet deadlines.

  • Communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively, using sound judgment in problem-solving.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Two years of experience at BECU or another financial institution.

  • One year of experience in Collection & Recovery Support Services.

  • Experience balancing and maintaining general ledgers.

  • Knowledge of state and federal laws relating to garnishments, levies, and debt recovery.

  • Training or mentoring experience within a team setting.
