LeoStella is a joint venture between Spaceflight Industries and Thales Alenia Space. We are a state-of-the-art small satellite design and manufacturing company located just south of Seattle, WA, redefining how high-quality satellite constellations are built at scale.

Life after earth ? be a part of the machine that builds the machine, scaling spacecraft production with a small dedicated team and a singular vision to open up entrepreneurial access to space.

LeoStella is looking for a Mechanical Engineer to join our team. Engineers at LeoStella are involved throughout the product lifecycle, from understanding customer and mission needs through design, integration, test, and ultimately, the operation of satellites. This position specifically will focus on the mechanical design, analysis, assembly, and test of small satellites. The ideal candidate will possess the eagerness and aptitude to adapt and extend traditional mechanical engineering and spacecraft hardware development practices to an agile and low-cost environment.

You will frequently interact with flight, prototype, and ground support hardware so you must be eager to get your hands dirty ? figuratively and literally! You will work closely with an agile, multi-disciplinary team to develop initial concepts based on stated requirements and objectives, then mature that design using LeoStella?s best practices, mentorship from senior engineers, and your own engineering judgment. You will create designs using 3D CAD software (Creo), select parts and materials, and generate and maintain manufacturing documentation such as mechanical drawings. You will work closely with our manufacturing team to aid in the assembly and verification of your designs.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Design spacecraft mechanical structures, assemblies, and components with 3D CAD modeling software (Creo)

  • Generate and maintain engineering and manufacturing documentation such as drawings, bills of materials, etc.

  • Document design, analysis, and test results in technical reports and presentations

  • Develop test plans for mechanical components and assemblies

  • Coordinate engineering design packages with systems engineers, electrical engineers, manufacturing, quality, and program management

  • Use engineering judgment to make decisions when all required data may not be available

  • Seek out new technologies, tools, and approaches to maintain LeoStella?s position as a leader in efficient space system engineering

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science (or more advanced) degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field

  • Proficiency with PTC Creo (Pro Engineer) strongly desired

  • Experience with PTC Windchill or PDM Essentials

  • 3+ years of experience in mechanical engineering in an aerospace industry

  • Experience designing machined, sheet metal, bent tube, and welded parts

  • Demonstrable experience maturing designs from initial concepts to detailed manufacturing drawings

  • Working knowledge of the ANSI Y14.5 dimensioning and tolerancing specification

  • Experience writing manufacturing and assembly work instructions, test plans, and design & analysis reports

  • Must be a U.S. Person (U.S. Citizen or Green Card holder) due to government regulation of the space industry

    Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience performing static and modal structural analysis using NASTRAN analysis software

  • Proficiency with Femap/Patran pre-/post- processors
