Space Communications Systems Engineer Lead, Puge t Sound , WA

Position Summary:

Boeing Defense, Space and Security is seeking an experienced Communications Systems Engineer (Level 5) in Puget Sound in support of Space & Launch programs. The position provides an opportunity to lead an experienced, interdisciplinary team to develop a unique communication system for a space vehicle to meet challenging requirements on dynamic development programs.

As part of the group, you will be required to work with a proprietary customers in the development of the next-generation technologies in space, and provide support for multiple programs that are executing over a wide product life-cycle. Our group works all facets of engineering from technology investment, concept development, proposal writing, requirements and design, build, integration, test, and delivery of operational products.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Leads work with customers and suppliers to develop and document space vehicle communication system, sub-system, and supplier requirements on a program with multiple suppliers.

  • Leads analysis and translation of requirements into system architecture, hardware and software designs and interface specifications.

  • Leads trade studies to make design decisions.

  • Leads integration, testing and validation work on the system design to assure that operational and functional requirements are met.

  • Manages performance of critical suppliers to ensure system integration and compliance with requirements.

  • Leads the resolution of technical issues that arise during development, qualification, functional integration and operational testing, including supplier technical issues.

This is a union represented position.

This position requires an active Top Secret and/or Q U.S. Security Clearance. (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active.)

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • This position requires an active Top Secret and/or Q U.S. Security Clearance. (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active.)

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering, Physics or related technical course of study is required

  • 3 years or more of Communication Systems Engineering (RF and/or Optical) on aerospace platforms or similar highly regulated products

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Experience with trade studies, requirements development, verification/validation, ICDs, and supplier technical management

  • Experience in development, build and test of spacecraft

  • Experience utilizing Model Based Engineering (MBE or MBSE) tools

  • Experience with EVMS

Typical Education/Experience:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 14 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+9 years' related work experience, Master+12 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.


This position offers relocation based on candidate eligibility. Basic relocation is available for internal candidates.
