Job Description:

Seeking a Software Engineer (Mission Systems) to join the KC-46 Tanker Mission Systems Avionics (MSA) software team located in Tukwila, WA, within the Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS); Mobility, Surveillance and Bombers (MS&B) organization.

The MSA team supports U.S. Air Force and international KC-46 customers and other platforms, providing integrated hardware and software solutions that provide tactical situational awareness to the flight crew and on-board network systems. The latter enables net-centric applications and beyond line of sight communication for the warfighter via secure and non-secure ground networks during KC-46 aerial refueling missions.

This position will include a variety of software development assignments, such as new capability development, delivered capability upgrades, defect correction, and proof-of-concept prototyping via Internal Research and Development (IR&D) activities.

The successful candidate enjoys working collaboratively with others, has a commitment to customer satisfaction, quality and process improvement, and is successful working in a multi-contract/multi-project environment.

Occasional travel may be required but would be less than 10%.

Our teams are currently hiring for a broad range of experience levels including; Experienced and Senior Level Software Engineers.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Develops, documents and maintains architectures, requirements, algorithms, interfaces and designs for software systems

  • Develops and maintains code and integrates software components into a fully functional software system

  • Develops software verification plans, test procedures and test environments, executing the test procedures and documenting test results to ensure software system requirements are met

  • Performs software project management and software supplier management functions

  • Develops, selects, tailors and deploys software processes, tools and metrics

  • Executes and documents software research and development projects

  • Serves as a subject matter expert for software domains, system-specific issues, processes and regulations

  • Tracks and evaluates software team and supplier performance to ensure product and process conformance to project plans and industry standards

  • Works under general direction

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics or other technical degree

  • 3+ years of experience with UNIX, Linux, and/or Windows development environment

  • 3+ years of experience programming in C+ Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Experience with JAVA

  • Experience developing embedded (real-time) software

  • Experience with bus communications and protocols including MIL-STD-1553

  • Experience with Electromagnetic Support Measures (ESM), Passive Trackers and/or Link16

  • Experience with open architecture constructs like Open Mission Systems (OMS)

  • Hardware and Software Integration experience

Education / Experience:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years' related work experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
