Principal Electrical Hardware Engineer

Position Description: 

LeoStella is looking for a principal electrical hardware engineer to support the development, integration, and maintenance of space electronics for our satellites. We are looking for exceptional engineers who enjoy working in a fast-paced, results oriented environment. This Role Specifically:

As a part of our Electrical Engineering team, you will be expected to lead and contribute to the design and development of space electronics through all phases of the product lifecycle. As an electronics designer you will create and review electrical models, designs, schematics, layouts, and simulations for analog and digital systems. You will also provide general electrical engineering expertise to help solve a wide array of design challenges that arise through the course of design, development, integration, test, launch, and operation of small satellite constellations . You will also have opportunities to provide guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.  

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Create and maintain electronics designs for space applications including specification, design, schematic capture, parts selection , layout support, fabrication support, prototyping, qualification, and production   

  • Work with aerospace architects, systems engineers, and program managers to derive and maintain meaningful requirements  

  • Develop product concepts and designs, perform schematic capture, perform/oversee layout, and support manufacturing at external EMS vendors  

  • Manage and review existing in-house and subcontractor designs/subassemblies 

  • Lead small, multi-disciplined project teams responsible for delivery of electronic assemblie s  

  • Establish and execute test plans and procedures for prot o t ype testing, PCBA bring-up, hardware qualification, and hardware acceptance.  

  • Support design reviews to ensure requirements and interface compliance 

  • Create and review system-level electrical design documents ( e.g. flight harnesses, interconnect diagrams, grounding schemes, EICDs)  

    Required Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor of Science (or greater) degree in Electrical Engineering  

  • 12 + years of professional experience delivering digital and/or analog embedded hardware  

  • Significant expertise with design, development, and test of switch mode power converters including feedback design and control loop tuning, layout guidance , magnetics design/sizing , and isolated topologies  

  • Expertise in troubleshooting and diagnosis of electronics, debug and board bring-up, and system level testing  

  • Expertise with using Electrical Test Equipment (e.g., oscilloscopes, Network Analyzers, DMM, etc.)  

  • Proficiency in EMI/EMC best practices and mitigation techniques  

  • Proficiency with Altium or similar tools for circuit design/schematic capture and library management  

  • Must be a U.S. Person (U.S. Citizen or Green Card holder) due to government regulation of the space industry  

    Desired Qualifications: 

  • Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering 

  • Experience developing electronics hardware for space and/or other highly demanding environments (temperature, reliability, radiation, etc.)  

  • Familiarity in designing spacecraft power system concepts from contract level requirements and Concepts of Operations (CONOPS)  

  • Experience with renewable power systems incorporating Solar Arrays and Batteries in offline converters and MPPT electronics design  

  • Strong competency in EMI filter design  

  • Competency in Reliability Numerical Analysis methods and Worst Case Analysis techniques  

  • Competency in EEE parts control  

  • Familiarity with designing system verification plans for electric power subsystems.  

  • Familiarity with Atlassian tools (JIRA, Confluence, etc.) or similar tools in an agile development process   

  • Familiarity with modern requirements management tools (JAMA, DOORS, etc.)  

    Compensation & Benefits: 

     

  • Compensation range is $130-185K + 10% target bonus  

  • Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.  

  • Base salary is one part of your total rewards package - you may also be eligible for up to 10% potential bonuses. Additional employee benefits are detailed below as well.

  • 401(k) – matching 50% of contributions, up to 6% of your base salary

  • Paid Time Off and Flexible Schedule: You may accrue 156 hours of paid time off per year, in addition to 8 company holidays.  You may also have the choice to take Flexible Friday off every other week.
