The Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) team is seeking an Experienced Internal Loads Engineer (P-8 Program) located in Tukwila, WA. The selected candidate will be responsible for developing, integrating and documenting structural requirements to establish the system design.

Position Responsibilities Include:

  • Coordinate with other engineering groups to establish the product's environment

  • Guide product design and verify structural integrity by using analytical methods, finite element models/simulations and other analysis tools throughout the product lifecycle to develop the structural environment, characteristics and performance

  • Develop test plans and configurations, support test execution and analyze/report test results to validate and verify systems and components meet requirements and specifications

  • Defines and documents certification and test results to substantiate for customers and regulatory agencies that requirements are satisfied

  • Supports in-service products by investigating failures and analyzing improvements

  • Strong verbal and written skills, teaming skills, technical skills, and integration skills

  • Works under general direction

This position is hybrid. This means that the selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at one of the listed location options. This is at the hiring team’s discretion and could potentially change in the future.

This position requires the ability to obtain a US Security Clearance for which the US Government requires US Citizenship as a condition of employment. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry

  • 3 or more years of experience in structural analysis on a commercial or military aerospace program(s)

  • 3 or more years of experience using finite element (FEM) tools for model assembly, checkout, analysis and post processing

  • 1 or more years of experience in one or more of the following programming languages: Fortran, C++, Python, or MATLAB

  • 1 or more years of experience with Unix or Linux based operating systems

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in Aeronautical/Aerospace/Astronautical, Civil or Mechanical Engineering

  • Ability to construct, execute, audit, and manage structural finite element models (FEM)

  • Experience interfacing with stress integrated product teams (IPT) and external loads and dynamics teams

  • Knowledge of finite element based internal load databases, including load case screening, load summations, checking and documentation

  • Experience generating and releasing internal loads to stress IPT in a variety of formats using inputs from external loads and dynamics

  • Ability to build and maintain super element models including high fidelity, fine mesh models for breakout/cutout analysis

  • Familiar with Fortran based software tools with an ability to convert to modern software tools

  • Proficient in the following (Fortran, Python, MATLAB, Unix or Linux operating systems, MSC Nastran and Patran, HyperMesh, OS Shell Scripting, GitLab, SVN)

  • Aircraft internal loads experience with fixed wing aircraft

Typical Education/Experience:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Summary pay range: $102,000 – $138,000
