Cowlitz Indian Tribe Youth Council Advisor in Toledo, Washington
Position Summary: The Youth Council Advisor works as an assistant in the development of the Cowlitz Youth Council members as young leaders in the Cowlitz Tribal community and government.Provides mentorship and support of eight (8) Youth Council members between the ages of 13 years to 17 years old. Facilitates activities that foster spiritual and educational growth in their roles as strong, capable, and caring youth leaders. Organizes and runs monthly youth council meetings and events, including the annual Youth Council retreat. Works as a liaison between Youth Council members and Tribal Council staff for youths attending Tribal Council meetings.Assists the program manager and coordinator in the planning and presentation of youth program activities, events and programming. Attends staff meetings, trainings, and obtains/maintains proper certifications. Completes weekly office duties for Cowlitz Youth Council and Cowlitz Youth Program as assigned.Successful candidate will be highly professional, self-motivated, detail oriented, have the ability to manage multiple tasks, and demonstrate a genuine interest in Cowlitz Youth and culture.This position reports to the CITYP (Cowlitz Indian Tribe Youth Program) Manger.Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities: include the following and other related duties as assigned. *Supports the Cowlitz Youth Program staff in the planning and implementation and of tribal youth activities, events, and programming. *Abides by the Cowlitz Indian Tribe Personnel Policies and Procedures, enforcing the Youth Code of Conduct with all youth program participants. *Must be able to work occasionally long or extended hours, including some evening and weekend shifts. *Must maintain the confidentiality of all information concerning youth and youth families. *Assists with planning, preparation, and participation in events such as: Youth Council meetings, conferences, trainings, cultural gatherings, camps, and holiday events and outreach. *Ensures youth activities, programs, and gatherings are delivered in a culturally appropriate manner. *Supports Cowlitz Youth Program staff on the various targeted prevention frame work and activities aimed at decreasing alcohol and other substance use. *Works with various Tribal departments and outside organizations on programming to provide educational opportunities for Cowlitz youths. *Ability to transport youths to and from events in company vehicles as needed. *Occasional preparation or service of youth meals during program events. *Assists with set up and break down of youth program events and activities. *Assist with maintaining the youth program's social media. *Submits Youth Council articles and photos to the Tribal newspaper. *Purchases program supplies and submits POs to the accounting department. *Other duties as assigned by the program manager. Minimum Qualifications: *Knowledge of traditional, cultural, and spiritual practices of the Cowlitz Indian Tribe. *Must have one (1) year experience working with youth. *Must have one (1) year group facilitation experience. *Must have public speaking experience and be comfortable presenting information to groups of both youths and adults. *Must be proficient in software such as Microsoft Office, Word, Excel and PowerPoint. *Must have strong organizational skills, with the ability to maintain accurate and timely documentation. *Must understand how to use and facilitate meetings through virtual media platforms. Specific Requirements: *Must maintain the confidentiality of all information concerning youth and families. *Must pass State criminal background check and drug screen.
