Position Description

City of Tacoma Fire Department is hosting two Women in Fire Service recruiting events this fall. Each event will include an informational panel Q&A followed by a hands-on workshop with fire service equipment. One session will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2024, and the second session on Saturday, September 28, 2024 - e ach session will cover the same info and both will be completely free!

Space is Limited to the first 85 (per session) people who sign up.

SESSION #1: Saturday, September 7th from 9:00am - 3:00pm (FULL - Registration Closed)

SESSION #2: Saturday, September 28th from 9:00am - 3:00pm

• Hear from female leaders with TFD and the City of Tacoma

• Discuss a career as a female in the Fire Service

• Learn about career advancement within the departments and beyond

• Hear first-hand accounts of what it's like to be a female firefighter

• Understand our hiring process, salaries, and benefits

• Ask questions you might otherwise be hesitant to ask

Attendees will have the opportunity to rotate between hands-on stations hosted by the Fire Department and will include activities such as pulling hoses, EMS, and handling equipment.

Insurance Plans: Employees are covered by a long-term disability plan. Short-term and expanded long-term disability insurance plans are also available to employees. The State Industrial Insurance Act also covers employees.

Deferred Compensation: Income can be set aside on a pretax basis and invested for supplementation of normal retirement income.

Retirement: All employees of the City, except members of the Police and Fire services, Tacoma Rail and certain project employees, are included in the Tacoma Employees' Retirement System. Other Employment Information

Direct Deposit: Employees are paid on a bi-weekly schedule by direct deposit.

Salary Increases: Based on satisfactory job performance, the City provides for a regular progression of salary increases for most classifications according to the salary schedule.

Union Affiliation: Many job classifications are covered by union security provisions which require union membership, dues, or payment of equivalent service fees.
