Responsibilities

JOB SUMMARY

This job is focused on developing and delivering the appropriate training/education for all Virginia Mason Franciscan Health (VMFH) security personnel to facilitate the initial/continued development of professional and competent security staff and to assure compliance with applicable regulatory requirements. An incumbent conducts the Security Services Academy onboarding process for all new hires as well as initial and recertification of applicable department programs for security personnel.

Work also includes: 1) procuring, maintaining, issuing and retiring all uniforms and essential security equipment; 2) establishing and maintaining training records for security staff in a manner acceptable for auditing by management, internal departments (e.g. Human Resources, Legal), DOH and The Joint Commission; and 3) coordinating/training supplemental unit-based educators to provide continual on-site training/education support on-site for security staff. An incumbent may also provide education across VMFH departments, specifically with regard to violence in the workplace, active shooter, and behavioral restraint education.

Work requires the ability to adapt training to the learning needs/capabilities of a highly diverse employee population with generational, cultural and educational differences. An incumbent tailors training to a wide variety of learning styles and aptitudes as necessary to facilitate and maintain an engaging learning environment for both security personnel and clinical/administration/support staff.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Develops training materials and related exercises and delivers a variety of security-related training to build respect and foster increased knowledge among the security team and to improve levels of proficiency and readiness; coordinates re-certification and/or re-education of current staff in accordance with established procedures.

Establishes credibility and serves as point person for general consultation/information on security-related training and related topics.

Coordinates the on-boarding process for new security officer hires in accordance with established procedures.

Develops and maintains training files/documentation and compliance tracking processes.

Procures, issues, tracks and retires security-related uniforms, equipment and training materials.

Qualifications

Education/Work Experience Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline and four years of related work experience that would demonstrate attainment of the requisite job knowledge/abilities, or

Any equivalent combination of education and work experience that would demonstrate attainment of the requisite job knowledge abilities.

Licensure/Certification

  • International Association for Healthcare Safety and Security (IAHSS) Basic/ and Advanced/Supervisory certifications preferred.

  • HSS Teams Trainer (or other equivalent de-escalation certification) preferred.

  • AVADE Handcuff, /CS Gel and shield trainer certification (or equivalent program trainer certification preferred.

Pay Range

$30.55 - $44.30 /hour
