The City of Tacoma’s Information Technology Department, SAP Center of Expertise is currently recruiting for a highly motivated, energetic, qualified candidate interested in innovation to join its Business Solutions Functional team. The team is responsible for the configuration, support and maintenance of the City’s SAP ECC 6.08 ERP application. The employee in this position serves as the primary subject matter expert for SAP HCM modules with specific expertise and focus on SAP Payroll (PY). This work requires independent analysis of moderate and complex situations and strong communication skills.

This Senior HCM Payroll Functional Analyst position is the highest level of the Business Analyst series, serving as a leader within the SAP HCM team and works directly with other IT teams and Business Units. The responsibilities of this classification include providing functional analytical support to end users, translating business requirements into functional solutions, configuration of SAP HCM modules, writing functional specifications, collaborating with SAP ABAP development team and performing testing for projects and production support initiatives. Analysts will conduct workflow and interface analysis, develop custom reports and queries, execute testing during implementation of processes, upgrades, conversions and enhancement requests.

The Business Analyst III is distinguished by the assignment of lead duties in providing functional project coordination in a specialized area of technology. They possess expert technical skills and advanced business knowledge, overseeing high-risk, high-profile initiatives that may impact fundamental public services. Positions in this classification develop and deliver communications to diverse audiences.

The candidate must have experience in SAP HCM Payroll configuration and functional knowledge of the SAP HCM modules; Organizational Management (OM), Time Management (TM), Personnel Administration (PA), strong expertise in SAP Payroll (PY) and familiar with the integration points with Financial Accounting (FI), to perform the primary duties & responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with business and technical teams to design functional solutions to fulfill business requirements; define, design, configure/build, test, deploy and support solutions.

  • Possess a deep understanding of business processes in SAP Payroll and integrated processes. Remain current with all developments and initiatives in SAP HCM modules and apply these creatively to client requirements.

  • Provide support on Incidents reported by end user community; including troubleshooting, root cause analysis and corrections to solve issues in Production systems

  • Use problem solving skills, tools and techniques to independently propose new solutions, track and resolve highly complex issues in an integrated system. Proactively anticipate problems and implement ways to avoid them.

  • Communicate (both verbally and written) effectively with customers and team members regarding highly complex projects, system integrations, processes, applications and functional solutions.

  • Lead team projects, workshops and tasks, conduct peer reviews, provide constructive feedback, mentor peers and junior analysts. Assign project tasks to other analysts and ensure completion.

  • Serve as an internal consultant and project coordinator from project scoping through post production support for highly complex and integrated projects. Act as liaison between external consultants, business units and other technology service teams.

  • Serve as a primary contributor on multi-member large projects, assisting with managing contractors, risk, scope, development and delivery of projects.

  • Translate unclear business objectives into defined requirements, propose process/functional solutions, which may include complex design. Present both verbal and written recommendations from requirements gathering, analysis and design activities.

  • Comfortably write and deliver presentations to all levels in the organization.

  • Maintain system integrity by following best practices for configuration, development, security and testing; identify system improvement opportunities and assess change impacts.

Qualifications

Qualifications (Training and Education)

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Business or Public Administration or a related field and four years functional experience within SAP HCM Payroll

OR

  • Six years of experience working specifically with SAP HCM Payroll (ie. analysis, system maintenance, or troubleshooting/problem resolution)

Desired Qualifications

Subject matter expertise in SAP HCM Payroll with a good understanding of integration points with the other HCM Modules (OM, TM, PA)
