Role:

The Nurse Resident observes and takes part in the clinical and didactic portion of the Residency training program and successfully completes all assignments and requirements of the program. Clinical training assignments are under the direction and supervision of the registered nurse preceptor.

This job is responsible for providing a wide variety of professional nursing services which focus on the provision of quality patient care consistent with Franciscan Health System (FHS) standards & values, applicable regulatory requirements and scope of practice for the nursing profession. Work also includes developing, implementing and assessing the patient plan of care during time of stay in collaboration with physicians, interdisciplinary teams, and the patient/family. An incumbent is engaged in direct patient care, including assessing, planning, coordinating, evaluating and delegating work to members of the patient care team, and for providing education and consultation with patients, families, physicians and other staff members in implementing appropriate nursing interventions for optimal patient care.

Medical Surgical Orthopedic:

29 bed unit with private spacious rooms. Our orthopedic specialty patient population is complex spine, joint replacement and fracture patients. It is a great feeling to see our patients regain their mobility after surgery. We have a specialty population and a special group of staff who pride themselves in competence and teamwork. This fast paced environment allows our employees to assist in pre-surgical work as well as recovery after surgery. Our staff work well with each other and call their peers their work family.

What you'll do:

Provide pre surgical education and stabilization as well as pain management. Good surgery prep positively contributes to patient outcomes. SJMC is a level II trauma center so we get a fair number of fractures and injuries. The Medical Surgical Orthopedic nurse gets the patient ready for surgery or splinting and then begins the recovery process to ready the patient for discharge. We work with braces, collars, adaptive equipment and do lots of dressing changes.

Qualifications

Education & Experience:

Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.

License & Certification:

Current licensure as a Registered Nurse issued by the Washington State Board of Nursing.

Current Healthcare BLS Certification.

Specialty certification, as appropriate to the assigned work unit, is strongly preferred.

Pay Range

$42.50 - $71.80 /hour
