Overview

Virginia Mason Franciscan Health seeks a highly skilled and experienced Per Diem PeriOp RN Educator to join our dynamic team. This role offers the flexibility of per diem work while providing the opportunity to significantly impact the quality of patient care through education and training. The ideal candidate will possess a strong clinical background in perioperative nursing, coupled with proven expertise in adult education and curriculum development.

Responsibilities

As a Per Diem PeriOp RN Educator, you will coordinate and develop educational and training activities for nursing staff and other healthcare professionals within the perioperative services. You will work collaboratively with medical staff, department directors, and Education Services to enhance the quality and cost-effectiveness of patient care. This includes conducting needs analyses, developing and implementing educational programs, and evaluating their effectiveness. You will also contribute to the development and revision of policies, procedures, and protocols related to perioperative nursing education. The position requires a strong understanding of adult learning principles, clinical nursing practices, and regulatory guidelines (including The Joint Commission standards).

Essential Job Functions:

  • Conduct needs analyses to identify educational needs and develop comprehensive training programs aligned with regulatory requirements (city, county, state, federal, and The Joint Commission).

  • Collaborate with service lines and department management to identify current and future educational requirements.

  • Develop, write, update, and modify educational materials, including modules, curriculum, and lesson plans.

  • Deliver engaging and effective educational programs, including classroom training and other learning modalities.

  • Implement programs in accordance with all applicable regulatory requirements.

  • Coordinate and deliver Nurse Residency education within the perioperative specialty.

  • Provide specialty knowledge-based education to groups outside the perioperative area.

  • Develop and maintain consistent standards and processes for perioperative education across facilities.

  • Collaborate with Unit Based Educators to ensure consistency in educational practices.

  • Participate in the development, revision, and update of department-specific policies, procedures, and protocols.

  • Support quality improvement initiatives and incorporate quality improvement techniques into work performance.

  • Participate in performance improvement teams.

  • Utilize course evaluations to improve and update educational offerings.

  • Attend and report on relevant meetings.

  • Engage in ongoing professional development.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) required; Master's degree preferred.

  • Minimum three years of RN experience in perioperative nursing.

  • Prior experience in healthcare provider education/training strongly preferred.

  • Current Washington State Registered Nurse license.

  • Current BLS certification.

Pay Range

$48.84 - $74.63 /hour
