OrePac Building Products Production Supervisor in Tacoma, Washington

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Operations Manager, the Production Supervisor oversees daily production in the door shop and pre-finish departments. This position is responsible for meeting and maintaining productivity goals while producing a quality product that is expected by OrePac’s external customers through the utilization of timely, productive, safe, and cost-effective methods. This position will work directly with their immediate supervisor and have significant influence in all areas regarding staffing, employee engagement and development, and accountability.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

This is a full-time position. Normal days of work are Mondays through Fridays. Shift availability may vary. Hours may need to be extended or adjusted at any time, with or without notice, to meet the needs of the organization.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Plan and direct daily departmental operations to ensure operational goals and expectations are met. Work with the Operations Manager to effectively manage overtime.

  • Work alongside the Pre-Finish and Door Shop teams and perform similar tasks, which may include but is not limited to, prepping products before applying paint or stain, upkeep of Pre- Finish booth, spraying products scheduled for paint or stain, and touch-up of visual defects, machining of and assembly of prefabricated doors to meet work order specifications, palletizing of door orders, and the operation of door shop equipment.

  • Follow and comply with OrePac’s policies and procedures as well as applicable state and federal laws.

  • Adhere to OrePac’s safety program. Share responsibility with Operations Management in efforts to aid in training, conducting safety observations, and participating in incident investigations to determine root causes.

  • Work with the Continuous Improvement Supervisor to conduct daily team meetings, update and review the KPI boards, and promote an environment to foster an engaged workforce.

  • Collaborate with the Operations Manager to provide feedback in areas of staffing, including but not limited to hiring, termination, rewarding and disciplining employees, training, conducting performance reviews and providing ongoing feedback and coaching for employee development and growth.

  • Forklift duties may be assigned to this position. Any assigned forklift duties will first require taking and passing a forklift training course and obtaining a certificate. Forklift duties will include staging and/or stacking material neatly and safely, operating the forklift in a safe manner, filling the forklift with propane fuel, and regularly checking the forklift fluid levels.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

  • Ability to write routine reports and business correspondence.

  • Excellent communication skills and comfortability speaking in front of groups of people consisting of employees, customers, and/or members of leadership.

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

  • Must have knowledge of the accurate and safe use of automatic door shop equipment such as the Norfield, Ruvo, or Kval door machinery and various routers and saws, full house, and Eugine.

  • Must know how to use small hand tools and power equipment.

  • Ability to re-prioritize as necessary throughout the day with minimal supervision and effectively communicate changes to the team.

  • Experience in leading teams, including the ability to handle personnel conflicts effectively and efficiently while successfully driving company and department initiatives and goals.

  • Strong communication skills. Comfortable engaging and leading individual and team discussions and meetings. Ability to articulate direction and expectations to teammates in a clear and concise manner.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or three to five years of related experience and/or training; or any combination of education, training, or experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Regularly required to stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

  • Regularly use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls

  • Regularly reach with hands and arms

  • Regularly lift/move/manipulate up to 60 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds.

  • Regularly required to bend, reach, and climb tall ladders.

  • Regularly required to see, talk, and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate/loud.

  • The employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts.

  • The employee frequently works in high, precarious places.

  • The employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions.

  • Report all incidents and accidents to one’s immediate supervisor within 24 hours.

  • Maintain the work area in a safe and healthful condition.

  • Report, and whenever possible correct, unsafe working conditions to branch leadership.

  • Operate vehicles while in the course of employment in a safe and lawful manner.

  • Provide assistance to reduce or eliminate workplace hazards.

  • Comply with company drug testing policies and procedures.

  • Comply with company Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) policies. OrePac will provide required PPE to employees.
