In fall 2018, the college opened a food pantry on campus to support students experiencing food insecurity and was recognized by the Harvard Kennedy School for its College Housing Assistance Program, a community partnership that helps students access affordable housing.   *Position Overview * The MESA (Mathematics, Engineering, Science Achievement) Cohort Achievement Program (CAP) Coordinator is responsible for MESA student counseling and programming in support of the MESA Director. This position will work collaboratively with the MESA Director in coordinating and overseeing activities funded or sponsored by the MESA program and/or for the benefit of MESA students. The MESA program at Tacoma Community College primary objectives are the promotion of STEM careers, STEM education, and STEM programs to students of color and students of populations underrepresented in STEM fields; the recruitment of those students; and facilitating success, persistence, completion and transfer to baccalaureate programs of those students. This position for MESA is charged with helping the College achieve those objectives.

Essential Functions

Conduct needs assessments for participants; track and develop individualized plans to support retention and personal/academic success of MESA students.

Provide mentoring and advocacy support to assist participants in overcoming barriers or obstacles to persistence and retention. Assist students in accessing needed services.

Provide support and coordination of the MESA program, including training MESA personnel

Coordinate, plan and oversee recruitment/outreach activities, orientation activities, and events for MESA students, including counseling, programming, campus visits, transfer fairs, scholarship fairs, resume workshops, award ceremonies and graduation celebrations

Serve as a resource for MESA students --directing them to
