Mechanic Foreman 003-3743 Mar 5, 2024 313 East F Street, Tacoma, Washington 98421 Job Purpose/Summary: Directs maintenance personnel and vendors to safely accomplish repairs and upgrades on a fleet of tugs and barges. This includes management of hazardous and non-hazardous waste materials, proper utilization of resources and strategic planning that lends itself to absolute minimum downtime of company equipment. Associated skills required are the ability to perform accurate diagnostic evaluations and service/repair tasks. A high level of cost sensitivity and professionalism is required, as the position will occasionally require serving as the owners' representative. Additionally, safe operation of yard equipment and machinery is required. Essential Functions: Supervision Assigns tasks to maintenance personnel and vessel chief engineers. Assumes lead role in logistics and maintenance for vessel repair projects. Shoreside Equipment and Facilities Maintenance and Repair Maintains yard and shop equipment in accordance with company and applicable regulatory agencies standards. Safe working mindset Employee will adhere to the Foss safety standards while working. Environmental Preservation Ensures proper handling, storage, transportation, and disposal of all environmentally sensitive materials. Vessel Maintenance and Repair Performs preventative maintenance and repairs to vessels and equipment. Assists in diagnostic evaluations of machinery. Assist vendors in overhauls of propulsion, auxiliary engines, and drives. Ability to recognize maintenance issues and initiate a plan of repair. Manage and perform repairs while vessels are outside shipyards. Basic electrical work Routine equipment maintenance, including oil change, filter replacement, paint, and other items that do not require an OEM technician (they are to assist OEM technicians during all major maintenance) Minor repairs: pipe replacement, cooler repair, replacement of consumable parts, etc... All preventative maintenance Will assist during drydocking activities Warehouse, inventory management, and equipment procurement Facility maintenance Vehicle management Minor parts logistics support Engineering inventory management support Support port engineer with drydock and out-of-service time planning Engineering and operational project support Knowledge Skills and Abilities: Understands operational theory of marine and industrial diesel engines. Ability to repair and operate a wide range of machinery including engines, winches, motors, transmissions, etc. Basic diagnostic and repair abilities with regard to marine subsystems such as pneumatic control systems, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and fuel systems. Proper knowledge and use of hand/power tools. Basic welding skills. Ability to effectively communicate both in verbal and written form, in order to express ideas to people of varied background and education. Thorough understanding of equipment operation manuals, drawings, charts, graphs, and blueprints. Basic computer skills. Knowledge of engine electronic diagnostics a plus. Minimum Qualifications: High School Education or equivalent education required. A minimum of six years in all phases of marine maintenance is required. Working Conditions: Work is performed in environments wherein oily decks, high room temperatures, and high noise levels will be present. Regular and predictable attendance is a requirement. Physical/Mental Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be involved with frequent use of lifting tools such as chain hoists, slings, and general rigging.
