Bates Technical College MAINTENANCE ENGINEER III in Tacoma, Washington

BATES TECHNICAL COLLEGE Maintenance Engineer III, under supervision of the Facilities & Operations Manager, displays personality, attitude, flexibility, and manners to support a sense of "team" amongst all co-workers.  The Maintenance Engineer III performs journey level work in the operation, maintenance, repair, remodeling, alteration and construction of buildings, grounds, machinery, mechanical facilities/systems and equipment for Bates Technical College. Daily job duties include a variety of skilled tasks requiring extended knowledge of various trade skills such as mechanical, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, welding, carpentry, and machinist work. This position requires the ability to work independently. Abnormally complex tasks may be performed under the direction and coordination of a Maintenance Engineer IV and/or the Facilities & Operations Manager.   *Please Note: *Full potential salary for this position is listed. Salaries at the top of the range are earned through longevity. *Annual starting salary is $60,659 to $66,856 depending on experience. *Custodial and Maintenance positions will be eligible for Cost of Living (COLAs) increases on July 1, 2024.  Please be sure to read this entire posting in order to understand the full scope and requirements of this position. 

*Essential Functions *

  • Display appropriate personality, attitude, flexibility, and manners to support effective teamwork amongst all co-workers
  • Perform the following independently and/or as part of a team:
    • Respond and document actions taken on Directline (Megamation) work requests.
    • Respond to service requests and secures necessary materials/supplies and assistance; take preventative and emergency action to control malfunctions.
    • Perform journey level skills work in carpentry, plumbing, welding, electrical, HVAC, and other typical routine maintenance and repair activities.
    • Perform preventive maintenance, demand maintenance, and repair on a variety of mechanical and other building systems including:
      • Changes oil; lubricates shafts & bearings etc.
      • Checks and changes drive belts, sprockets, shafts and bearings as needed to ensure proper operation of equipment
      • Changes or cleans filters
  • Perform repairs on building elements and fixtures using prior experience and skills in carpentry, plumbing, welding, electrical, HVAC, and other maintenance and repairs.
  • Change light tubes/bulbs; repairs light fixtures as needed by replacing ballasts, tombstones etc.
  • Operate, maintain, and repair electrical, mechanical, operating, and utility distribution systems
  • Repair windows, doors, screens, floors, floor coverings, and painted surfaces
  • Install, maintain, and repair electrical connections, switches, circuits, electrical equipment, thermostats, and valves
  • Monitor safety, fire protection and environmental control equipment to ensure building systems and equipment are operating in a satisfactory condition.
  • Provide supervisor with information for ordering parts and supplies.
  • Maintain tools, work areas, and assigned mechanical spaces in a clean, orderly, and well organized fashion at all times.
  • During emergencies and or inclement weather and as directed by the supervisor, performs as a member of the essential personnel pool and will perform duties as assigned, including but not limited to:
    • Reporting to work during college closures
    • Snow/Ice removal
    • Power failure mitigation
    • Flood containment/mitigation
    • Structural failure mitigation
    • Other unanticipated incidents/emergencies etc.
