Tacoma Community College Entry Services Coordinator in Tacoma, Washington

Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Director of Entry Services, the Entry Services Coordinator will provide coaching, guidance, and support for prospective and new students from the admissions process through orientation and support them to their Academic Advisor. The Entry Services Coordinator will supervise a team of Welcome Center support staff and AmeriCorps members, and oversee both online and in-person new student orientation and family orientations. This position includes supervision and staffing responsibilities for the Welcome Center and managing day-to-day operations of the Welcome Center. 

By providing expertise to guide students through Tacoma Community College, the Entry Services Coordinator serves as a point of contact for entering students, monitoring student progress throughout the admissions process, responding to student questions, overseeing an impactful orientation, and facilitating a seamless transition to Academic Advising. The Entry Services Coordinator will use analytics to determine individual student risk and needs and to support the development of strategies that assist students in setting and succeeding in a career pathway.

 The Entry Services Coordinator will also work with the Director of Entry Services to identify and remediate systemic barriers in the entry process to facilitate easier entry into the college. In particular, the Entry Services Coordinator will seek to identify barriers that disproportionately impact marginalized students. 

 

Essential Functions

 

Entry Support

Demonstrate cultural competence, including awareness and understanding of historically underrepresented populations, and create an educational and work environment that affirms commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion.

Provide information to prospective students regarding TCC programs, admission procedures, steps to enrollment, degree/certificate requirements, financial aid/funding resources, campus departments, and services.   

Provide direction and support through the admissions process, deliver TCC program information, steps, and resources on and off-campus.   

Plan and conduct in-person New Student and Family Orientations. 

Maintain Online New Student and Family Orientations 

Refer students to appropriate services and resources to support the entry process such as Access Services, Veterans Services, WorkForce Education Funding, Running Start, other funding options and resources.  

Assist new students with completing Financial Aid applications

Assist in quarterly new student registration on and off-campus using the online registration system.  

Communicates through multiple methods of technology.   

Meet with prospective students, providing information about TCC and academic pathways, helping students determine if our programs meet their career and educational goals, and assisting students in completing admissions process.  

Present Admissions Information Sessions for prospective students 

Be familiar with all aspects of entry navigation (application, placement, funding options, academic pathways, resources on and off campus and orientation).  

Reviews prospective student completion of all enrollment requirements, monitors progress metrics, determines when outreach might be helpful, analyzes where students encounter barriers, and recommends changes to tools, resources, and practices.  

Connects with students who do not complete the admission process in order to ensure entry into a TCC program, improve current processes, and develop new plans to address emerging issues or barriers.
