The Opportunity
This opportunity as a Controller, in Tacoma, Washington is perfect for an experienced Accountant with strong leadership skills !
The person in this position will be a highly competent and motivated individual who thrives in a fast-paced and demanding environment. They will have solid experience with cost accounting; managing monthly accounting close process to tight deadlines (2 weeks or less); delivering timely, accurate, and beneficial financial and operational reports; performing financial analysis; handling cash management; and overseeing accounts payable / accounts receivable, general ledger, payroll, budget and forecast/projections. Solid experience with cash management and treasury are important, as are maintaining relationships with our banks, external auditors, and tax accountants while ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and requirements.
The Responsibilities
Ensures accurate and timely cost accounting activities including Work-In-Process, accruals, and journal entries
Hires, supervises, coaches, develops, retains, and prioritizes the work of the accounting team
Establishes and maintains effective internal controls and safeguards for invoicing, cash receipts, purchase orders, invoices, expenditures, and program budgets
Provides clear, concise, accurate, and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and operational metrics reports, produced within 2 weeks or less of month end
Consistently analyzes data to identify and report on potential issues/opportunities
Monitors progress and changes and keeps senior leadership abreast of financial status
Assist leadership team in the annual budgeting and planning process
Administers and reviews all financial plans and compares to actual results with a view to identify, explain, and correct variances as appropriate
Coordinates all compliance and financial audit activity
Effectively utilizes Company ERP/accounting system (currently Viewpoint/Vista)
Ensures preparation for and supervises year-end audits
Ensures staff produce accurate and timely reconciliations to include bank accounts, taxes, sales, liability expenses, revenue, work-in-process, and job costing
Reconciles complex ledger accounts and contract information
Participates with leadership and strategic planning
Develops, modifies, reviews, and implements accounting procedures and controls
Ensures compliance with financial policies and GAAP
The Necessities
BA in Accounting or related
5+ years of construction experience
5+ years of experience effectively using ERP/accounting software systems
7+ years of supervisory experience, fully responsible for accounting and finance for an organization
Valid enhanced driver’s license
Strong analytical , problem-solving, and time management skills
Advanced knowledge using Excel
Strong knowledge of GAAP
Strong oral and written communication skills
Ability to clearly communicate accounting information to non-accountants
Great to Have
Public accounting experience is strongly preferred

Pay range is $125,000 - $140,000 per year for well-qualified candidates.
